The minute I got inside my house, mom and dad questioned like me like crazy from how my manners were to how the food was. I gave short answers and said it was fine, not wanting to admit the truth anytime soon. I decided to brush yesterday off and start a brand new day.

Slipping on a blue dress and some blue converse, I headed out, shouting a bye to my parents and grabbing a granola bar. When I was about two blocks away, Darrin caught up to me and I gulped. Great. Now he was going to question me and I just got through last night. Also, I couldn't eat my granola bar now because I didn't like talking with my mouth full.

"Why are you walking?" I ask, hoping to avoid the questioning that was obviously coming.

"You know damn well why I'm walking. Now how about-

"Look, it's Kenny and Melanie! Let's go catch up to them." I interrupt, racing to where they are in hopes that Darrin won't bring it up in front of them. Luckily, he follows silently for now and I happily unwrap my breakfast.

"Hey so how'd it go with board dude's parents?" Kenny asks, snatching the granola bar from my hand which I growl at him for. I was looking forward to that for a whole three minutes by now. He breaks off half and hands it to me as if that was acceptable. I was so stealing his Capri Sun come lunch time.

"Oh yeah, how did that go? Win their approval?" Melanie asks curiously. I frown internally at the memory of the night but keep a neutral expression and get an idea.

"It was amazing. His stepmom said I was sweet, his father said I was a keeper, his brother said I was beautiful, and his sister said I looked pretty. The food was great and they loved me. I think I'll be going back there often." I lie, feeling happy. So I said what I wished had happened, sue me.

Hey, it might've been a fucking train wreck, but why not just let them believe it was great? Plus, that's kind of how it went in my head after my nerves had settled. Darrin however looked skeptical. Stupid nosy little-

"Really? What did you eat?" Darrin tests, interrupting my thought process. Clearly he was provoking me and it was starting to work, but I did my best to treat it like the dinner and not show that I was bothered by being talked to this way.

"They prepared spaghetti and meatballs. Simple, but a classic and it was delicious." I lied again. Honestly, the food looked unfamiliar, but good. Better to just mention something common.

"Interesting." Darrin said in a tone that I did not appreciate. He wasn't letting this go anytime soon, but I didn't feel like letting Kenny and Melanie know. Darrin was more than I could handle right now.

"Hey, how's my girl." Jayce asks, swinging an arm around me in the hallway.

"She'd definitely be better if her boyfriend's father actually didn't hate her." I reply dryly. He frowns and pulls me next to him so we're attached to the hip but still walking.

"Well he'll come around. I'll make him. He'll see how amazing you are and how stupid he was for making you feel like that." He promises, dropping me off to my class with a wink. I smile lightly at the gesture and wave goodbye. Before I can enter the room, a hand yanks me back. I think it'll be Jayce, but I'm disappointed to see fucking Darrin.

"What do you want? Class starts in three." I say, irritated.

"How did the dinner really go?" he asks, not wasting time.

"I told you-

"You told them bullshit. Tell me the truth Skye. Now." He snaps, frowning. I sigh, looking at the clock.
