'We need to talk. Meet at the halfpipe now.' I read off my phone. At least he finally wants to talk. I hate fighting. Usually that means breakup alert, but Jayce and I have been going strong so that can't be it. I debate calling him, but decide against it and ride my new bike there joyfully. I just love how it says Skye Blue on it. Jayce is so much more thoughtful than I gave credit for. Fighting about animal rights was stupid.
When I get there, I see him sitting on the bench and while that may seem normal to some, I knew it was anything but. Jayce is always skating when I get here, so see him sitting at my usual spot means something is up, and not something good.
"Hey Rocket Boy, why so serious?" I ask as I hit the brakes on my bike, trying to lighten the mood. I peck a small kiss on his cheek to see him maybe crack a smile, but all I get is a tired and forced one. That's not a good sign. I drop the kickstand on my bike and place it next to the bench, taking a seat next to him.
"What's up?" I ask as he hasn't said anything.
"Skylar-
"Wow this has to be serious. You used my real name." I joke. Jayce just rubs at his eyes like he's trying not to lose it and sighs tiredly. I frown now and shut my mouth. Is he still that mad?
"Listen Skylar, when two people get together, everything seems really perfect at first, but-
I stop listening at this point. If that's not the beginning of a breakup speech, I don't know what the hell is. What did I do? I don't recall doing anything stupid. Maybe he realized just how crazy I am. I did forget to ride my bike to the park that one time, but he didn't seem to mind because it was only once. That can't be it. Can it? Maybe it's about the skateboard thing...but he was so ecstatic at the end of it and I promised not to do anything that crazy again so that wasn't it either. Was the animal thing enough to make him want to be done with me? What was it?!
Or maybe he realized what a nut-job I was for losing my shit whenever someone I cared about moved away.
Wait a minute. Is he...? No. I shake the thought right out of my head. He can't be. He just can't.
"You listening?" He asks, scowling.
"Why the hell should I listen to this? Just say we're done and leave it at that." I snap, getting up, but being dragged back down by him. Hey, nobody can drag me down! Wait, isn't that a song? Whatever, off topic.
"What the hell?!" I ask, glaring at him.
"You're not even sticking around long enough to listen to me!" He shouts. Gee why does that sound familiar? Oh yeah, because every time I want to tell him something, he gets angry and leaves before I can finish!
"Give me something worth listening to!" I yell back, barely paying attention to what was coming out of my mouth. I'm just thankful no one else is here. Like I've said before, I don't like having my relationship publicized so I'm glad no one's here to witness our screaming session.
"You're impossible! This is why we can't be together. You're impatient, you jump to conclusions, you NEVER listen, and you're just flat out annoying. This is why I don't love you!" He says, not meeting my gaze. I feel my heart shatter, and I mean, completely shatter. We've fought countless times before, but never that bad to where he'd say he didn't...
Was I right before? This can't be true. Please tell me it's anything but that. I think I'm starting to hyperventilate because the next thing I know, I'm on my knees and trying not to cry.
"Skylar?! Skye! Oh my god, Get up!" Jayce yells, yanking me to him, but I pull away and shake my head.
"Tell me it's not true Jayce. Tell me I'm doing what I do best and jumping to conclusions." I demand, glaring, tears streaming down my face involuntarily. This just can't be happening. He promised. Indirectly, but he promised.
