"I love you." I say into the mirror. Wow. Is that really what I looked like when I said it to Jayce? Hopefully not because I looked pretty nasty in my sick state. My face was something akin to a bad makeup artist's job on a Zombie for the set of The Walking Dead.
"Who the hell are you talking to?" Ari's voice comes from nowhere as she walked into my room.
"I told Jayce I love him." I blurt out to her. I don't even know why. We haven't acknowledged anything serious since that time I yelled at her and things weren't okay, but they were. Makes about as much sense as anything else.
"Wow. How'd he take it?" She asks, hopping on my bed.
"You shouldn't sit there. It's got my sicky germs on it." I warn as she gets up immediately. My voice still croaked and I was constantly hacking or coughing, but at least my temperature was feeling less than horrible.
"And he kind of didn't really say it back, but I think he likes that I said it." I admit, feeling a bit down all of a sudden.
"Don't feel bad Skylar. Guys suck at expressing emotions. He probably feels the same way and if he doesn't, he might soon. It's been half a year. And I-well, I was wrong about you guys." She says, indirectly apologizing.
"Thanks Ari." I tell her, laying back in bed. Just a few more days of misery and I would be fine again. I had to beg Jayce to stay away because if he was around, I couldn't help myself from kissing him and I'd feel beyond guilty if he got sick because of me.
-
"Well?" I ask anxiously.
"Your temperature is normal honey." My mom says with a smile. I jump out of bed and squeal in joy because-
"It's been eight days! What even is the outside again?!" I ask no one in particular whilst running outside and making a snow angel.
"Skylar Flynn, you get back in here and bundle up before you catch pneumonia again." My mom hollers, causing me to rush back in with a shiver. She had a point.

"What'd I miss while I was gone?" I ask Julia during class. I missed Jayce this morning and didn't see him in the halls so Julia was the next best option to get all the information at once.
"Hm, project in English got assigned, a bit of homework in chem, and there's a winter formal coming up." She said, sounding dreamy about that last part.
"Did someone ask you?" I ask knowingly. She smiled coyly and peeked to see if anyone was listening to us.
"Well, okay yes! But he asked me not to tell anyone who he is because he wanted it to be a surprise. He's really cute though. Like super cute." She gushed, going into a semi-fantasy mode. It made me wonder if Jayce heard about this winter formal and if he planned to ask me to it. Well, I assumed he would, but now I was left to wonder the simple question of how.
The bell rang soon after and once I got all of my makeup work, I headed out only to be approached by Cam. He was one of the soccer players and I only knew this because Kenny and Darrin were on the team and asked me and Mel to come to the games sometimes.
"Hey Skylar. Haven't seen you at practice and Kenny said you got pneumonia. I was worried. But you're okay now? Also, I heard you go by Skye?" He asks, following me to the lunch room.
"Yeah, I'm much better now though. Thanks for asking. And yeah, Darrin and Kenny waste no time on that, huh?" I ask.
"Good to hear and guess not. So uh, listen, I know we don't each other much, but I was wondering if you'd want to go to the winter formal-
