~*Fisk’s POV*~

I play with the lighter in my hand as I walk away from yet another pile of ashes. The scars on my arm reflect the sun light as I walk down the street.

A few cop cars race past with sirens blaring. Someone must’ve called the fire in.

I just keep walking and flick the lighter cap open and closed. I can feel my wolf growling at me. ‘Again? Do we always have to burn the houses?’

I growl back. ‘Don’t get mad at me. You know you like it too.’

I flex my hand in front of my face making the scars dance just like the fires that caused them.

Diego huffs. ‘Well I still don’t like that we have to leave a trail everywhere we go.’

I laugh a little. ‘Diego, we both know that it is our trade mark.’

I put my lighter back in my jean’s pocket. ‘Anyways, they were the ones who couldn’t pay the price. You don’t pay then you burn. It’s not just a logo.’

Diego laughs a little. ‘True. I just try to use my better judgment. But you know me too well.’

I smile. ‘You are my wolf. Now what do you say we check on the rouge house before we skip town for a few weeks?’

Diego laughs evilly. ‘You know you just wanna have a reason to burn something else before we leave. Can I burn it this time?’

I shake my head. ‘You and I both know your flames burn too fast. But if they don’t pay at least something then I will let you have the pleasure before we skip town.’

Diego laughs before falling silent.

A memory of my mother yelling at me pops into my head. That phoenix died just the same way his wolf father did. Both burned in a car explosion. You’d think a phoenix would be able to live through a little fire but not his mother.

Diego snorts. ‘Yet we can touch flames and not be hurt. Only scarred.’

I remember when my mother told me how when I was born the house had somehow caught fire at the same time. I cried for the first time when the flames died and only ashes were left. It reminds me of how I hate to see the end of a good fire.

Diego comments on my thoughts again. ‘Ashes are always sad. But the flames show life. I truly love a good bon fire.’

I laugh. ‘We both do.’

I turn on the next street corner and a large house comes into view. I smile as I recognize the rouge house.

I step up to the front door and knock three times.

A ragged girl answers the door. I smile. “I need to speak with William. We have some unfinished business.”

The girl nodds and leads me through the house. William sits at the table counting out money. I stand across from him and take out my lighter to play with the lid again.

William looks up and grimaces. “Fisk. Good to see you here. You weren’t due to visit for another week. What brings you here early?”

I shrug and flip the light lid. “Nothing much. The Wilson house didn’t pay up and even with the extra week they couldn’t finish paying me. So they get what was coming to them. But I gotta leave town on business for a few weeks. So I guess I’d check up and get a part of my pay before I leave.”

William swallows. “But it’s not due for a week.”

I shrug and flip the lighter with more force making it click louder. William looks down at it and swallows again.

“Well like I said I won’t be here to collect. You should have some of it by now. Maybe even most of it. Don’t tell me you were waiting till the last minute William. That doesn’t look good for you if you did.”

William shakes his head. “No, we have some of it. But not much. We have bills to pay Fisk.”

I shake my head. “Bills aren’t important to me. You know the rules and the logo. Why do you think I always leave town William. You better pay up something. Because we both know Diego wants some freedom. And you watched the Mayor house. Don’t want that now do we?”

William shakes his head furiously. “No, no, no. We can’t lose the house. Jenn just gave birth to three pups. You can’t do that.”

I laugh. “Oh I can. You shouldn’t have hired me then. Pay up or burn William. Which will it be?”

The wolf werewolf sighs and hands me the money he had been counting. I count it out myself and smile. “Atta boy. If this is all for me then you only own me another hundred. Fire is a risky business William. Maybe you’ll learn to make better friends next time.”

William stands and looks away from me. “I’ll have it by the time you get back.”

I nodd and leave the house without another word.

I put the money into my wallet once I’m standing on the front porch.

I begin to walk down the street again while playing with my lighter. Diego sighs in my head. ‘Dam you Fisk. You and I both know we could’ve burned the house. But you wanted to be nice just because some pups. But at least vampire killing is good money now days.’

I nodd. ‘True. Vampires burn too easily. And every wolf needs at least one vampire dead. Let’s see what the east coast has to offer.’

Diego laughs. ‘Fisk, you flame happy asshole, I hope we find good business. Hell I heard the Dark Government needs someone for executions for vampire law breakers. Sounds like a money making deal. What do you think?’

I shrug. ‘You know I only do this for the fire. I wouldn’t kill if I could burn without causing issues. But the woods are our home and only houses burn otherwise. Killing is the only good outlet.’

Diego sighs. ‘I know. I hate killing these vampires but it’s for a good cause and gives us a gilt free way to burn things.’

I nodd and walk up to the nearest bus station. I buy a ticket to the east quickly and find myself on a bus a few moments later.

‘Diego? Do you think we could ever get over our flame addiction?’

Diego huffs. ‘I’m half phoenix. It’s in our blood. We just gotta get a better way to channel it.’

I nodd and lean back in my bus seat.

A few moments later I’m asleep.
