~* A Month Later*~
I lay on my side on the couch. James sits next to me and Sky sits in a chair.
She had come to explain a few things since she doesn’t have to hide anymore. “Ok, Whisper. I know you both have been wondering about me. I am actually your cousin Whisper.”
My jaw dropped and I was speechless.
Sky continued, “Your father had a half sister who was a bitten hybrid like you. He didn’t know about her of course. She ended up meeting my father and had me but died from my birth. My father was the last Dragon Shifter. He died a while back as well. That is why I am so much different than anyone else. But I can’t have kids either because I am technically a Hybrid.”
I closed my mouth and nodded. ‘So that means that you’re gona be a great cousin to my pups or what?’
Sky smiled. “I would like it if I could be called an Aunt. It would be easier then great cousin.”
I grinned back. ‘Well I’m glad to have some family. So how is everything at the castle?’
Sky sighed. “We have a grand total of a thousand vampires in the world but only three hundred wolves. Everyday Vampires have to be killed because they are breaking the new laws. But it’s not such a bad thing. A few Witch families have popped up again. And we found a unicorn shifter couple. So our Dark World is slowly fixing itself. I can’t stay too long. I have to stop by Daniel’s. Celesta still wants me to explain how I know her. The child is persistent.”
We laugh and James speaks up. “Well, we will call if there’s any news here.”
Sky nodded and stood up. “Thanks, I wish you luck.”
With that, Sky leaves our house. James looks at me and smiles lovingly. I move closer and snuggle up.
James sighs and stands up. “Come on we have an appointment with your Doctor.”
I sigh and hop off the couch.
Later we’re in the doctor office while Dr. Liz feels my belly that has begun to bulge. When she’s done she looks at us both. “I think that Whisper may not have to wait the 5 more months. Seems the pups are growing really fast. At this rate, you’ll have them in a month or two tops.”
James smiles really big. “That’s great.”
I sigh understand the underlying meaning. ‘James, that means we will find out if the pups are going to be normal or what. Remember that they are Shay’s. We have to be careful.’
James frowns and sighs. “I know. I just get excited.”
The Doctor leaves telling us that the appointment is over. James helps me off the bed I was on and we leave the office.
James looks over me again. “Even though they are Shay’s I’ll still love them.”
I look up at James. “I know. I’m glad for that.”
James smiles.
Later, I lay in bed next to James and watch TV. A nudge in my stomach has me on my feet in a second.
I look between my legs at my bulging belly.
James looks at me, worried. “Are you ok?”
I watch my belly for a moment before looking at James and nodding. ‘Yeah, I think a pup kicked. It’s a first so it startled me.’
James smiles and laughs. “That’s good. I thought it was something bad.”
I shake my head and lay back down. ‘I’m fine. I guess that it is normal for a kick.’
James nodds and sits back down next to me.
An hour later, I get up and go to the nursery. I look around and smile to myself.
A large crib without legs is on the floor. It’s large enough to fit three full grown wolves in it. The crib bars are only a foot off the ground.
Against one wall is nothing but a shelf full of different sizes of baby clothes that people have given us. Another wall has a basket full of baby toys. Another bin has just blankets.
In one corner are twin rocking chairs. With happy thoughts I lay on the floor and just look around the room.
Three weeks later, my belly is bulging more. James says I look ready to pop. The pups kick a lot now.
Now I’m laying in the living room while James is cooking. A sudden pain gets me to my feet.
This time I knew it wasn’t a kick. It was more painful. I feel it again and a whimper escapes from my mouth. James appears next to me.
I whimper again. James kneels next to me and holds my head. “Are you ok? What’s wrong?”
I shake my head and whimper. ‘No. Pain.’
~*James POV*~
As soon as Whisper’s voice says pain, I pick her up gently and head to the car. I lay her in the back seat where she curls herself into a ball.
I jump in the driver seat and drive to the pack hospital as fast as I dare.
Once there I pick up Whisper again and rush into the building. Whisper whimpers again and cringes up in my arms.
A nurse calls for a doctor and brings a rolling bed to me. I place Whisper on it and talk to Dr. Liz who has appeared. “She just started whimpering and said she was having pains.”
Liz nodds. “She’s probably going into labor. Since she’s a hybrid and the pups are abnormal, you will have to wait.”
I nodded and followed till a nurse grabbed my arm. I watched the doctor wheel my Mate away.
The nurse leads me to a waiting room where I sit and stare at the wall. All kinds of worries enter my head.
What are the pups going to be like? How normal are they going to be? Will Whisper be ok?
I end up sitting in the waiting room for hours wondering these things.
