~*James’s POV*~

After hours of sitting and thinking a Nurse appears in the waiting room doorway.

I look up and listen as she talks. “You may come back to the room.”

I get up and follow the nurse to a small room. On the bed Whisper lays on the bed asleep with her tail curled around herself. I hear a tiny yelp and focus on where it came from. Two large pups are curled up against Whisper’s belly.

One is pure black and the other is pure white. I smile and look over my Mate. Her face looks exhausted as she sleeps.

The nurse taps my shoulder. “The white is a female. The black is a male. Call us when she wakes.”

I nodd and watch as the nurse leaves. I take a chair and move it around to the side of the bed. I sit and watch as the pups snuggle against Whisper.

I smile to myself. After a while I doze off.

When I wake, Whisper is looking at me. I smile. “How are you feeling?”

Whisper sighs and looks at the pups. ‘Tired is the only word I could use. But I’m happy.’

I nodd and crouch next to the bed and pet Whisper’s head a little. “Well since we have them, they need names. Plus I’m supposed to call the nurse since you’re awake.”

Whisper shakes her head. ‘We can worry about names a in a second. Go ahead and call the nurse.’

I nodd and lean over and press the nurse button on the wall. A few moments later Dr. Liz shows up.

She touches Whisper a few times and smiles as us both. “The pups are healthy. They seem pretty normal right now. Most pups stay in wolf form for the first year then shift to human till 18. But that’s with normal wolves. With these guys, there is no telling.”

Whisper looked confused. “Wait. That’s for normal wolves. Does that mean I was born human or in wolf?”

The doctor laughed. “Honey. You were born human because of your human mother. James was wolf because his mother was a werewolf. Anyways, we just have to keep an eye on these guys for a while.”

Whisper nodded. I spoke up this time. “So when are the pups and Whisper able to go home?”

Dr. Liz looked at me. “I need to check Whisper out thoroughly and then take a few measurements on the pups and from there you should be able to head home. And I’ll need you to leave for a second while I do that.”

I nodded and left the room. When I was allowed back in, Whisper was sitting up on the bed. Both pups were in a blanket, asleep.

A nurse come in behind me and sat a small basket in a chair. “This is for the pups.”

I thanked the nurse as she left. Whisper jumped off the bed and went in to the bathroom. She nudged the door shut. A few moments later she came out in her human and stretched. A long sun dress hung on her shoulders and was tight across her belly that was still fat from the pups.

After stretching she hugged me. “I’ve missed being in my human. Feels strange after so long.”

I laughed and kissed her head. “I’m happy that you and the pups are well.”

Whisper sighs happily then pulls away. “Well let’s get the pups home.”

I help Whisper pick up the pups and put them in the basket. The white one curls up against the black pup’s rear. I wrap a blanket around the edge and drape a corner over the pups.

Whisper smiles at me as I pick up the basket.

As were leaving the hospital, a thought pops into me head. “What about the names Shadow and Light?”

Whisper tilts her head and smiles. “Shadow for the black male and Light for the white female. I like it.”

I nodd. As Whisper gets into the car, I hand her the basket and she holds it in her lap. I get into the driver side and we drive home.

Once in the house we head up to the nursery. I place both pups into the large crib. Whisper appears in her wolf and jumps in to the crib. She then curls up to the pups as they snuggle up to her belly.

I smile. “How does it feel to be a mom?”

Whisper looks up at me. ‘Different. But I’m glad to have you here.’

I nodd and sit on the floor and watch the pups.

Thorn speaks up in my head. ‘You’re a father now. Even if they are not your blood, they are our children.’

I smile. ‘I know. You don’t speak to me much anymore. Why is that?’

‘As we have gotten closer with Whisper, we have bonded. The same is with Whisper and her wolf. There is no need for me to speak much anymore.’

I nodd to myself. Thorn slowly fades back to where ever he goes. I look at Whisper to see that she has fallen asleep.

I get up and walk over to one of the rocking chairs. I sit down and recline it. Eventually I fall asleep.

~*Whisper’s POV*~

When I wake up I look around to see James asleep in one of the rocking chairs. The pups are nuzzled against my belly asleep. I smile to myself.

The puppies were a blessing to be healthy. James had named them well. Light, my white daughter whimpered. Shadow, my black son, nuzzled up closer to my belly.

I reached over and licked each one lovingly. A sudden voice in my head surprised me. ‘I may have messed up but it is good that they are both beautiful pups.’

I sigh. ‘I thank you anyways. At least I have the chance to be a mother. But we still don’t know what they will be like as they get older. Only Shay had any idea and he is dead now.’

Blood-Fang sighed. ‘I know. Even with everything being done and over with, we still have this issue. Not to forget that child.’

I frowned. ‘Celesta? What’s wrong with her?’

Blood-Fang paused. ‘I just have a feeling about her. Something isn’t right. Even with the pups, we won’t just live happily ever after.’

I sigh and lay my head down. ‘Well until we figure out the problem then we can’t fix it. So for now I will care for my pups.’

‘That’s fine.’ Blood-Fang’s presence faded away slowly.

I lifted my head and shook it. My stomach growled so I carefully pulled away from the sleeping pups. I hopped out of the floor crib.

I went to our room next to the nursery. I shifted and get dressed in sweat pants and a t-shirt.

Then I headed down stairs to fix myself and James some breakfast. Half way through James appeared behind me.

He wrapped his arms around and kissed my neck. “I’ve missed your human form. The pups are sleeping still.”

I smiled and nodded. We ate breakfast and then I went back to the nursery. Both pups were snuggled against each other sleeping.

I sighed happily and watched them sleep.
