~*A week later*~

~*Fay’s POV*~

I sigh as I wait outside of the throne room door. The guards stare at me as I smile slightly.

I appear to be a young lady with a scar down my face. But I know that it is only a mask to get me to my final prey.

I smile sweetly at the werewolf. “I really do need to see Queen Celesta. I have news for her.”

The man sniffs the air. “Then where is the news? And who are you again?”

I tilt my head slightly. “I was hired a few days ago as a historian. And my news is all up here.”

I tap my temple and wait for the guard to let me past. The vampire rolls his eyes. “Simon, just let the girl in and stop harassing everyone who walks in the hall.”

Simon looks at the vampire and frowns. “Just this once. But I get to do a full check out on the next stranger.”

The vampire rolls his eyes again and opens the door for me. I quickly thank him and slip into the room. I look around to see Celesta sitting at a table with a tone of papers. Of course the spoiled child would be working.

I walk up quietly and look at her waist. There is a small scabbard with the weapon I need.

She looks up and finally notices me. “And you are?”

I smile slightly. “A new employee. Can I see that blade? It looks very admirable. I happen to specialize in knifes.”

Celesta eyeballs me before handing me the knife. I hold it in my hand and turn it over as I read over the Greek inscription.

Death whispers to me. ‘Now that you have it, kill her with it but don’t get near her heart.’

I sigh and pop my neck. “I am quite sorry about this Miss Celesta. But I no longer have a choice in my actions. Give Sky my regards.”

Celesta looks at me right before I lung and stab her in the throat. I slice her vocal cords at the same time so she can’t even scream as the blood gushes from her throat. I watch as the kid drowns in her own blood.

Death murmurs praise before giving me a new command. ‘Now for me to take my place you must stab a living person in the heart with that very blade and read out the Greek inscription. Then I shall roam the earth as I please!’

A sudden and random thought enters my mind. Without another thought, I turn the blade on myself and stab my own heart and shout out the Greek words.

I can hear Death scream into my mind. But instead of my soul being replaced with Death, A pain races up my body. I yank the knife out and it shatters into black sand in my hand. Wetness starts to drip down my chest. I look and see black blood dripping down my front.

But the black starts to run red and I feel weak.

Death screams in rage as I fall to the ground. Using the last of my strength before it slips away, I force the cut in my chest to heal.

My vision blurs to black as I pass out.

When I wake up I’m on the floor surrounded by blood I stand and find that I feel cold. I look at my chest to see it healed except for a scar.

Death suddenly yells in my head. ‘You useless slave! When I get my hands on you, you will burn for eternity in hell!’

I ignore the shouts and threats and look around. The room looks like I only passed out for a few minutes. Celesta lies dead in a pool of her own blood while I sit in a pool of my own.

I stand and pop my knuckles and feel power in my palms.

I aim my hand toward the ground and a small fire starts and when I close my hand into a fist it goes out. Something tells me that this power came from that mutt that gave a long but useless fight.

I laugh a little and smile.

But something in my head catches my attention.

Death still yells as if it mattered. ‘When I see you, you will beg on your knees for mercy and forgiveness! I will make you wither in pain for years!’

I huff. “You speak as if you can’t hurt me right now.”

Death growls. “You sniveling b*itch. You don’t even know what you did with my blade! Freed yourself and ruined my only chance at power! You will suffer!”

I laugh and I understand. I am free to do as I wish. I am no longer a servant.

I laugh even more and walk up to the throne and sit on it. The power that radiates from it makes me crave more. I get up and go out of the throne room. The two guards prepare to attack me as I let my face morph back into my true form. The vampire lunges first. I grab him by the throat and snap it without batting an eye.

The werewolf shifts and attacks next. I grab his throat after dropping his coworker and slam the wolf to the ground. He whimpers in pain.

I lower my face up to the wolf’s face and smile. “You queen is dead. I am in charge now and you can’t do anything about it. Either bow down like the dog you are or die like your friend.”

The wolf whimpers and tucks his tail in submission.

I smile and release the mutt. “Now gather all of your friends and leave my castle!”

The wolf quickly gets to his feet and runs away with a limp.

I walk back to the throne and sit down and smile.

I can get used to this.

~*Whisper’s POV*~

I look up from the book I started reading to find Light tapping my arm. She smiles a little. “Mom, can we go to the castle?”

Shadow appears near my other elbow. “Please?”

I laugh. “Why do my two big twins want to go to the castle? You have everything you need here.”

Light huffs and looks at Shadow.

He just smirks. “We need to go.”

I raise an eyebrow. “Why?”

Light crosses her arms. “Because we have to.”

I shake my head. “Is that your only reason?”

Both twins nodd in unison. James walks into the living room just then and sees the kids ganging up on me.

“What’s going on here?”

Light smiles and goes up to James and kisses his cheek and hugs him. “Can we pretty please go to the castle?”

James laughs. “Tomorrow since you added a pretty to that please.”

Shadow smiles. “We need to go now.”

James frowns but it disappears with a sigh with Light makes a begging face. “Fine, but we need to pack for over night.”

Light and Shadow run upstairs and a few moments later are each carrying two bags each.

I laugh as I recognize two of them as the suitcases that belong to James and me.

Shadow drops my suitcase in front of me. “We all ready to go. Can we leave now?”

James laughs. “Alright. Let’s go. Load up!”

I shake my head as both kids race out to the car.

I grab my bag and we all get into the car and start the long trip to the castle.
