12 - Shifted

Over the next we try everything possible to convince the pups to shift. But they just stare at us or run off to play.

They have been granted freedom to roam the house. And they never try to get out of the house.

I lay on the couch with Light curled up against my belly and Shadow curled up by my neck. James is with Daniel working again. I flip the channel as I try to find something to watch.

Suddenly I have an idea. And it’s the one thing we haven’t tried.

I carefully get off the couch without waking the pups. I run upstairs and strip down and shift.

In my wolf I walk back down stairs and nudge both pups till they wake.

Shadow growls at me at first but then licks me when he recognizes my smell. Light barks at me once and licks me at well. I get the pups to follow me upstairs and once in my room I shift back with the pups watching. I slip on a sun dress and look at the pups for a reaction.

Light has her head tilted and Shadow is studying me.

After a moment Shadow looks like he’s stretching. But a second later I understand what’s happening.

Shadow shifts into a small boy. I smile and grab a blanket.

I kneel and wrap it around Shadow as he shivers. I smile and look into his lime green eyes. He smiles back showing me a full set of teeth. His hair is black like Shay’s.

I look at Light. She started sniffing Shadow with a puzzled look.

But after a moment she begins to shift too. I grab another blanket and wrap it around Light right after she shifts.

Her yellow eyes look at me and I smile. Light’s hair is dirty blonde like mine.

I pick up Light and hold Shadow’s hand as I take them both to the nursery.

Once there I set Light down and pull out some clothes that were give to us. I quickly dress both children.

I sit on the floor and pull out my phone. Shadow sits next to me and Light sits in front of me.

I call James first. “I figured it out!”

James sounds confused. “Figured what out?”

“How to make the kids shift. I got the idea while lying with them on the couch. So I left the room, shifted and come back then woke them. And I shifted back to my human while they watched. Then Shadow shifted first then Light followed suit. I’m sitting on the floor in the nursery with them both right now.”

James almost yells in happiness. “Great! I’ll be there in a second so we can take them to Liz so she can check them up.”

I’m about to respond but I stop. Shadow looks up at me and speaks. “Mommy? Is that Daddy?”

My jaw drops and I’m speechless for a few second. Finally when I find my voice I answer. “Yes, Daddy is coming home right now.”

I hear James in the line. “Was that Shadow? Wow, I’m on my way.”

James hung up and I put my phone in my pocket. Shadow speaks again. “Are we going to see that lady again?”

I nodd and pull Shadow into my lap. I lean forward and pull Light into my lap too. “Yes, she has to make sure your ok. But she won’t hurt you.”

Shadow nodds. A very timid voice comes from Light. “Mommy, I want to stay with you and Shadow and Daddy.”

I smile to myself. “Ok, honey.”

A moment later, James appears next me. He kneels down and smiles as he looks at both kids. “Amazing.”

Shadow jumps up and hugs James first and Light follows.

After a moment James picks up Shadow and I pick up Light. We head out to the car. In the back seat I buckle up both kids and sit in the back with them.

James drives us to the doctor office.

Once there we head in with the kids and we are directed to a room. Dr. Liz appears after a moment and smiles at the kids.

She kneels down and looks at them both. “Amazing. They are only 3 weeks yet they appear to be 7 years old.”

Light holds my hand while Shadow sits and watches Liz.

James looks the kids and smile. “Well they finally shifted so that’s good.”

I frown understanding the meaning of the kids’ growth. “How soon do you think they will stop growing or at least slow down?”

James frowns understanding as well.

Liz sighs and looks at us. “I still don’t know. They have grown way too fast the last few weeks. But with them shifting I think they should slow down a lot. But right now there is no proof or any way to prove it. We just have to watch them and bring them in next week.”

James nodds. Shadow suddenly growls at Liz. “I don’t like you.”

Dr. Liz’s face is full of shock. My jaw drops and James looks at Shadow.

Light squeezes my hand. “I don’t like her either.”

Liz shifts her weight and looks surprised. James looks at both kids then at the doctor. “If there isn’t anything else you need we will be leaving. Thank you for your help.”

Liz is stunned as we leave. I pick up Light and James picks up Shadow and we head home.

Once at home we all go to the nursery. I sigh and look around. The room is full of baby stuff that we never used.

I look at James. “Looks like we have to do a room make over. But what are we going to do with all this stuff?”

James thinks for a minute. “I just remembered. One of the Omega females is pregnant but she can’t afford the stuff she needs. We can give her all the baby stuff. And I’ll call Patty to come help us redo the room. I guess I have to clean out the spare room too so that they can have their own rooms.”

I nodd and look at the kids. Shadow looks up at me. “Mommy, can we go play?”

I nodd and watch as the kids grab a few of the toys and run to a different part of the house. I follow and find them in the living room. I smile and go back to the nursery.

James frowns at me. “We didn’t even get the privilege to watch them grow.”

I sigh sadly. “But we still have them.”

James nodds. “So which kid gets which room?”

I laugh a little. “Both rooms are the same size. But this one is in the middle. I think Light should have this one. She’s timid and maybe having us on one side and Shadow on the other will make her feel safer.”

James nodds. “Well I’m gona makes a few calls and I’ll get started on this.”

I agree and go to the living room.

Shadow and Light are still playing so I flip through the TV till I find some cartoons. Both kids are suddenly mesmerized by bugs bunny and daffy duck. I laugh and join them while we watch cartoons.
