After Dominic pays for our clothes, Malachai and I go into the bathrooms and change into our new dry clothes. After I change, I leave the stall and toss my still soaked clothes into the trash. I go to the mirror and adjust my clothing. I run my fingers through my hair before leaving. Dominic messes with my damp hair, smiling at me.

"Ready?" Dominic questions.

"No, where's Malachai?" I glance around and Dominic's smile disappears.

"Still in the bathroom. He's taking forever... Go make sure he didn't trip and crack his head open." Dominic says and I stare. Why doesn't he check? I'm not supposed to be in the Men's bathroom in the first place.

"O-Okay." I walk back toward the bathrooms and hesitate before pushing the door open to the men's bathroom. I again wish Malachai wasn't deaf. I turn the corner and see Malachai staring at himself in the mirror. He glances over at me and then back at himself. I walk over to him and stand next to him, looking at myself.

"Is something wrong?" I ask since he is staring at me.

"Isn't this the Men's room?" He questions and his question makes me slightly embarrassed although I'm glad he understands that I'm not supposed to be in here.

"Dominic wanted me to check if you fell and cracked you head open." I smile and he slowly nods.

"Is that a common occurrence?" I laugh quietly and shake my head.

"No, he just doesn't like you and was joking." I say and he nods.

"Why doesn't he like me? The way he stuck his hand down my pants tells me otherwise." I turn and look at him and he looks down at me.

"Did you enjoy that?" He processes, narrowing his eyes at me then shakes his head rapidly.

"No, I love women and he completely overstepped boundaries." I slowly nod and look back at us in the mirror.

"You look great by the way." I say and he smiles, scanning over what he is wearing. Dark jeans with a black shirt and a flannel shirt over it.

"You think so?" He starts messing with the cuffs of his sleeves.

"Yeah." He looks at himself in the mirror.

"We should go before he thinks that you fell too." He smiles and I laugh slightly before turning and leaving. Malachai follows closely behind me. Dominic raises his eyebrows at me.

"Darn... He didn't fall." He smiles and wraps an arm around me, leading me toward the exit. Dominic leans down toward me. "Why is he always staring at you? Did something happen back in Barzakh?" He whispers and I stare at him.

"What?" We walk along the sidewalk.

"Did you two get close?" Dominic whispers and I narrow my eyes at him.

"Are you asking if we had sex?" I talk normally and his eyes widen slightly.

"Shhh... Gosh, he'll hear you." I immediately stop walking and turn toward him.

"No, we didn't have sex and no, he won't hear you because he's deaf." Dominic stares down at me then looks at Malachai.

"Oh." Malachai looks back and forth between us confused. "So he isn't ignoring me... he just can't hear me." Dominic says to himself. His phone begins to ring. He reaches into his pocket and pulls out his phone.

"Etheriel, she's fine, she's right here." Dominic stares down at me and a small smile grows on my face. He rolls his eyes and holds out the phone to me.
