Chaos, utter and complete chaos. I looked over my class schedule for the fourth time and groaned. I shook my head and folded it, shoving it in my back pocket. I directed my attention to my buzzing phone which notified me of 1 unread text from Chris.

At our usual spot with Cass, Gonna get here any time soon?

I rolled my eyes as I made my way to the benches, just outside the schools cafe, heading towards the spot where my friends were waiting.

I searched for our bench that we had claimed last year and the familiar faces of my friends, sighing in relief when Chris' backpack came into view. I plopped down on the bench beside Chris, who seemed happy to see me.

"Hey Zane, about time you got here" he said teasingly, his blue eyes on me. His hair had grown out since I had last seen him, which was a week before school started, before he left for his vacation in California. I smiled at him before speaking.

"You know, you should learn to hold your horses" I said to him as he reached over to mess with my hair.

"I've missed you.." He said as he leaned over closer to me, his fingers had stopped playing with the hair at the top of my head and were now rested at the nape of my neck, his eyes seemed to burn into mine. "I really did"

Cass cleared her throat and both of our heads snapped in the direction of her. She looked at us both expectantly and cleared her throat again before speaking.

"I do exsit you know.."

I chuckled nervously and Chris glanced at me, I didn't look directly but I could feel his eyes on me.

What was that..? Did Cass just notice that..?

"So, how was your break Cass?" I was genuinely interested in her response and I listened closely as she went on about how her sister had gotten gum stuck in her hair on vacation and then she went on to talk about her new hairstyle, which I had noticed when I sat down. Cassandra had naturally tan skin, she was Cuban and Mexican, her skin tone was a light Carmel color, the contrast of her perfectly dark hair and light hazel green eyes made her look absolutely stunningingly beautiful.

But, not so beautiful that I'd decide to date a woman.

"--what about you..?" Cassandra finished.

"Uh.. What?" I said absentmindedly

Cassandra threw her hands up in the air and grabbed her tablet phone off the table.

"Nothing, I said absolutely nothing." She sighed and started to mess around with her phone, I sighed before speaking.

"I'm sorry, Cass. I.. You're beautiful, so I got distracted, my break was fine.. and very uneventful, except I.might get a job at a coffee shop.. You know the one on main street?" I glanced over at Chris to see if he was paying attention.

"The coffee shop.. on main Street?" he said with slight interest.

Cassandra didn't even look up from her phone. I sighed and nodded, I opened my mouth to say something else but the bell rang.

"We didn't even get to look over schedules" Chris complained as he grabbed his back pack and slung it over his shoulder.

"I'll see you guys at lunch, good luck with the coffee shop thing" Cass said as she waved her hand and headed off towards her class.

Chris pulled me into a hurried hug and squeezed me, his expensive smelling cologne filled my nostrils.

"See you at lunch" He said and smiled "I want to hear more about this job at the shop"

I tugged the folded piece of paper out of my back pocket and headed off to my first class; junior English.

The rest of the day I spent on autopilot.
