I gripped onto the sides of my desk so tightly that my knuckles had turned white. Mr. Salvatore had assigned the class a short reading assignment, we were to read for fifteen minutes and then have a class discussion on what we thought creative writing was all about. I peeked out from behind Macy, who was slightly on the heavy side. I eyed Mr. Salvatore nervously as he sat at the desk, going through papers and scribbling things down.

Macy, along with every other girl in the classroom had obviously boarded the gossip train. There were multiple note passings and excited silent mouthings.

Macy turned in her seat to face me, her thick rimmed black glasses, framing her eyes. "Could'ya pass this note to Meridith, behind'ya?" she said in a low whisper and I nodded in response.

I grabbed the folded piece of paper from her and turned quickly to set the note on Meredith's desk, who nodded a silent thank you.

I faced the front of the room again, noticing that Mr. Salvatore was now busy scribbling something on the board in chalk.

I glanced at the clock, hoping it'd offer me some sort of relief, only to be disappointed that there was still 30 minutes left of the class.

"Before we start our lesson, are there any questions that are wanted to be asked?" He began, as he took to the front of the desk, leaning back against it.

A girl raised her hand in the air.

Mr. Salvatore grabbed the clip board from his desk, seeming to be searching for her name.

"My name is Carla" she said as she leaned forwards, crossing her arms, she sat them atop her desk causing her breasts to nearly topple out from behind the thin fabric of her tank top "My question is.. How old are you?" she said in a flirtatious tone.

A few girls rolled their eyes and Mr. Salvatore looked down at the ground, with a smirk on his face. He didn't say anything for a few moments, as if he was trying to find the appropriate thing to say.

"I don't think my age has any relativity to what we're about to discuss, Ms. Vega. But, did you have any input on what you spent fifteen minutes reading?"

Carla leaned back in her chair, tossing her long hair behind one shoulder, she shrugged, looking pissed.

Mr. Salvatore nodded and glanced around the rest of the room expectantly "Does anybody else have any input on what they just read?"

I kept my head lowered and placed my fingers to my forehead in a terrible attempt to try and hide my face as I pretended to read what I should've been reading fifteen minutes ago.

"I guess we'll pick up this same question tomorrow, I'll be expecting some sort of answer." He clasped his hands in front of him before he continued on with speaking "Tonight for homework, read chapters one and two of "The white lady" and jot down some questions that you each want answers to. We will discuss them as a class and move on to our first assignment of the year"

Just as he finished, the bell rang out through the school and I sighed in relief, I stood with the rest of the class and tried to gather my things at a normal rate. Because in all reality, I wanted to get my stuff and dash the hell out of here. I spotted my chance to escape, seeing a large group head towards the exit, I hurried behind them and tried to blend in.

"Mr. Grant, could I speak with you for a moment?"

I momentarily froze in fear but pushed on through the people, ignoring the " what the fuck " looks I had gotten.

"Yo, Zane. chill man, todays Friday.." I heard someone say in annoyance right before I dashed down the hallway.

The rest of the day was a blur, it wasn't until after the bell rang for school to be let out that I finally relaxed.

I spun the dial to my locker and tugged it open, gathering up a few work books and tossing them into my messenger bag.

"Hey Z" a familiar voice called "Can I talk to you for a second?"

I looked up into the face of Cassandra, whose make up was slightly smeared. She had obviously been crying.

"What happened? Are you hurt..?" I asked genuinely worried.

"Emotionally" She snorted and wiped her eyes, smearing black mascara across her cheeks "Will you come over today, please? I cant be alone."

I nodded "Yeah, of course I can.. Let's get you cleaned up first.." I smiled at her reassuringly.
