We were now well into March and just hanging around mine and Lucy's place since the guys broke in and Erza was here too along with Henley, and it was raining buckets outside.
"I thought the showers were supposed to come in April." Natsu said. "Y'know, April showers bring May flowers?" He continued. "It rains all the time in spring, Natsu." Lucy sighed.
I was sitting beside the fire with Grey, the egg in my lap, and I was heating it with my hands. "How long has it been since you've had that egg?" Grey asked. "Four months. We know something's inside, because you can hear tapping." I said and held it up to his ear. "Yeah. Something is moving in there. It sounds loud too." He hummed.
I hummed as well and put it back in my lap, between my crossed legs. We talked for a long while with the others, until I felt something stabbing my thigh.
"Ow." I hissed and looked down and saw it was a thick piece of eggshell that was stabbing me in the thigh, and I jumped up. "Ah, shit. What the fuck do I do?" I panicked. "What?" Lucy asked. "It's hatching." I said, and just as I said it, a paw or claw or something kicked and a piece of shell flew across the room and into the wall.
Then everyone else panicked.
"Guys guys. It's okay. I hatched Happy." Natsu said and took the egg from my hands and set it on the ground. "Just watch as it comes out on its own." He said in a voice that seemed like he was trying to calm me down. I nodded and turned to watch as the egg fell apart and out popped...
Two little cream and gold dragons.
"Wow. Um. I wasn't expecting twins." I said and they both looked straight at me. I slowly reached my hand out and they both sniffed it, decided I was safe, and let me pet them.
"Ari, you do know you're helping me raise them, right?" I asked and she looked at me cluelessly. "Why me?" She asked. "Because you're a dragon, idiot!" I sighed and she made an 'oh' face. "Right. Well. Um. Food. And water. And a bed. And house training." She said and I sighed.
"Right." I nodded. "They're hungry right now, if you need to know." Ari said and I got up and went to the kitchen, bringing out a raw steak, one of many I have lying around for Ari. "This good?" I asked and she nodded.
I put it in front of the two and watched them as they ate quickly. "Water." Ari said and I got a bowl and filled it with water and put it in front of them. "You know you need to name them." Ari said and I nodded and inspected the two.
"Hmm. This one," I pointed to the left. "Is Salazar. And this one," I pointed to the right. "Is Severus." I said and they looked towards Ari. She made a low noise and they looked back towards me with what seemed to be smiles.
"What did you say?" I asked Ari. "That you were their mom and just named them Salazar and Severus." She said and I smiled. "You're the best, Ariadne. This is why I love you." I smiled and hugged her and the two dragon twins stumbled over to join in on the hug. I scooped them up in one arm and Ari made a sobbing noise.
"What's wrong?" I asked, pulling back to see if she was okay. "This is just the sweetest moment I've ever been a part of. You're not going to give all your attention to them now, are you?" Ari said and I frowned and hugged her again.
"Ari, we've been together since the day we were born. Nothing could ever tear us apart." I said and she just nodded.
We stared at the two new additions to our small family, and I wiped a tear out of the corner of my eye.
