Stressful Train Rides

Kayla glanced out of the window, her mind whirring about the Hunger Games. She tried coming up with strategies to survive the Hunger Games for 10 minutes straight, but no avail. Her heart sank. She never wanted to be a tribute, even if she won the Hunger Games. She never wanted to be related to the Hunger Games at all.

The bullet train flew past the villages quickly. Looking down from the window, she stared at her hands, not moving at all for a few minutes. Suddenly, the door to the bedroom slid open quietly.

Olivia moved to the chair in front of Kayla. She smiled shyly at the mutant. “Hello.”

“Hello,” Kayla replied.

“I don’t think we’ve introduced each other properly yet. I’m Olivia,” the girl said.

“I’m Kayla,” Kayla replied, smiling a little.

“Stress?”

“Yep.”

“Me too.”

Kitty sat crossed-legged on the couch, watching the television. An attendant walked into the room. The mutant looked up.

“Can I get you anything, Miss Potter?” she chirped, her voice perky.

“No, thank you,” Kitty replied, looking back at the TV.

"How about Miss Kennedy? Would she like anything?"

"Nope, other than that, you should probably leave her alone," Kitty warned her.

"Alright, then. Suit yourself." The attendant shrugged and skipped away.

Kitty grabbed a creampuff and a few other goods from the big table in the middle of the compartment. Sitting back down, she switched the channel.

Suddenly, the door was flung open by none other than her District-mate.

"And what are you doing, enjoying what the Capitol has to offer?" Kat asked, suspiciously. She narrowed her eyes at her.

"Well, I guess we're all gonna be dead in a few days, so why not?" Kitty shrugged, nibbling at a donut.

"The Capitol are the ones that are enjoying our deaths. Apparently, they're using it as form of entertainment," Kat muttered coldly, sitting down on the sofa. "The only reason why I will eat their food is because I am hungry."

As if to prove her point, she got up and walked up to the table. Taking a cookie, she shoved it in her mouth, then walked back and sat down forcefully on the couch, making it bounce a little.

"I hate the Games," Kitty mumbles out of the blue.

"That, I can agree with."

Sitting on the bed, Leonardo looked at a picture of him, Destiny, and Master Splinter. He stared at it, sighing, wishing that he could be back home.

The door slid open, and his father walked in.

"My son," Master Splinter said, "are you alright?"

"Not really, father. I just want to go home," he replied sadly.

His mentor's eyes softened. "I do too."

There was a moment of silence between the two. Master Splinter broke it, looking to the living room.

"Let us check on Destiny, shall we?"

Leo nodded, heading after Master Splinter. He sat down beside Destiny on the couch.

"Hey Des. You okay?" he asked, concerned. Splinter moved to her other side, putting an arm around her shoulders.

She shook her head, using her long, brown hair to hide her face from view.

Leo cupped her face, brushing the hair away from her tear-stained face. Her eyes were red and puffy from crying.

The turtle looked at her and frowned, not liking his friend feeling sad.

He hugged her, kissing the top of her head. She looked back up at him, smiling slightly. "Thanks."

She engulfed Leo and Master Splinter in a group hug. They gladly embraced her back, the warm feeling lingering in the air in the midst of the sadness.

"I would like something though," she added suddenly.

"What is it, my dear?" Master Splinter asked.

"An ally."

"Who?" Leo tilted his head.

"You."

He smiles, wrapping his arms around her waist.

Colten played around with the controls for the bed, pressing the small buttons and watching what they do.

He pressed a button on the far left of the controller, and the bed started heating up. Leaping up onto the king sized bed, he rested his head on his hands as he lay in a relaxed position.

Hazel opened the door to his room. "What are you working on Colten?" she asked, trying to flatten her puffy hair with her hands.

"I've got too much stress. My body is heating up, and my brain is crashing. I need to relax for a while, maybe catch a few winks." He looked back at her.

Hazel couldn't help but laugh a little. "Your brain is crashing?"

"Yes. I'm a cyborg, remember? My brain is like a computer. And computers crash," he explained.

"Right. Sorry," Hazel apologized. "Enjoy your...nap." She walked out the room, closing the door quietly behind her.

"If I'm still asleep when we arrive, please do wake me up!" Colten called before turning over to sleep.

Caleb sat at the big table, piling food onto his plate. Ashton walked in and shook his head as he noticed the pile of food.

"You really shouldn't be eating that much," he said quietly.

"Why not?" Caleb turned to him. "We're going to go hungry in the arena, why not eat up before we die?"

Ashton shrugged. "It was a suggestion." He turned to the TV. It was showing the Reapings of the tributes for this year's Hunger Games.

"I'd like to ally with that girl in District 6. She reminds me of my sister," Ashton murmured.

Caleb shrugged. "Well, it's your choice."

"Who are you planning to ally with? Or are you going alone?" the avian wondered.

"So far, I haven't made any plans yet. I'm a lone wolf for now," Caleb replied.

"Oh. Would you like to ally with me, then?"

"We'll see."
