Alexandria trudged through the woods, swinging her bloodstained axe around. Her stomach churned in hunger, for she had not gotten any food from the Cornucopia since the bloodbath.
The air started getting chillier. Alexandria shivered. Her axe embedded itself into a tree, and she pulled it out, dragging herself along the snowy patches.
Wait. Snow? Since when did the arena start having snow?
To her surprise, there was a whole winter wonderland in front of her. Frozen ponds, trees covered with snow, icicles... She didn't get it. One day ago she was fighting on a sandy desert, spilling blood onto the yellow grains dotting the ground.
Despite her confusion, the raccoon mutant went with it anyway.

Raphael hid in the bushes. He peeked out, scanning for any tributes that may be nearby. Seeing no one, he headed to the far side of the arena.
There was the quiet chirping of birds. Nothing else was heard except the soft rustling of grass when he moved through it. It seemed so peaceful. A forest, rich with greenery and a gentle wind blowing his tattered mask tails back.
A figure was walking slowly in front of him. Her wings were folded across her back, her large ears alert. Raphael narrowed his eyes. If he had to kill a tribute, it might as well be this one.
Gripping a sai with his right hand, he slowly inched up to her. When he got into an appropriate length to sink the weapon into her back, she zipped away and disappeared.
The turtle looked around, confused. The birds stopped chirping. The wind was no longer there. Then, he heard it. The beating of wings when someone landed behind him. This heart started pounding and his electric green eyes widened, when he realized this might be the end.
Raphael whipped around. He only had time to let out a scream for help, when Sythia screeched and shot forwards, piercing her fangs into the turtle's flesh.
A single boom from the cannon sounded just as Raphael's limp body touched the ground, waiting for the hovercraft to come pick up the fallen tribute.

Kayla wandered around the arena, trying to find her way. Somehow, she had ended up back at where it had all started: the Cornucopia.
She walked over to it, wondering if anybody had left anything behind in the huge horn-shaped structure.
The dragon mutant heard footsteps coming her way, stopping right behind her. She whipped out her kodachi, the tip nearly touching Caleb's neck.
"Woah, woah, woah." The boy held his hands up in defense. "I just wanted to ally."
Kayla narrowed her eyes at him. "Well I doubt that I can trust you," she replied, holding the knife steady.
"Both our District partners are dead," the red-head pointed out. "We could be great allies."
"My District partner is dead because you killed her!" the dragon mutant snapped, still holding the kodachi out.
"Oh, was she?" Caleb tilted his head. "Well, I'm sorry about that. I didn't know she was your District partner. I've noticed that we haven't formally introduced ourselves yet. Hello, my name is Caleb." He gave her a genuine smile.
"I'm...Kayla," the brunette replied hesitantly and warily.
"Are you sure that you wouldn't want to be allies, then?" the boy offered.
Kayla remained silent for a while, studying the teenager.
"Alright then," the dragon mutant decided, slowly lowering the kodachi. "We can be allies...temporarily."
"Perfect," Caleb purred. "Ladies first," he said politely, holding a hand out and pointing the way. "Let's go tribute hunting."
What she didn't notice from behind her was that he had pulled out his knife, his lips twisting into a malicious grin.
