A bright light blinded the tributes as they came up, and they weren't on the Launch Room anymore. They were in a huge, sandy desert, or so it seems.
There was a circle drawn around the Cornucopia, with four long triangles drawn out from it, each of them perpendicular to the other.
The horn was blown, the loud sound echoing across the arena. The tributes took off running towards the Cornucopia, where the all supplies and weapons were.
Almost immediately, the arena erupted into chaos, tributes fighting over weapons and survival kits.
Ashton and Chase were wrestling on the ground over a dagger. They kicked and threw punches at each other. But Ashton hadn't noticed that they had rolled by a spiky cactus.
Chase took advantage of this and as the avian was about to take flight, he spun around and kicked the avian face first into the cactus, earning the first boom from the cannon. He stood up, unbelieving of his success.
But his triumph was short lived, for when he turned around, a vampire bat mutant struck. She sank her fangs into his neck, draining the salty, red liquid from his system.
The ram mutant gripped his neck, a gurgling noise emitting from his throat. He dropped the dagger and fell limp. The cannon boomed once more, announcing the death of another fallen tribute.
Sythia smiled, enjoying the meal, and took the dagger in her hands. She frowned, not needing the weapon, because her ultimate weapon was her fangs, but her hunger and thirst for the blood of the tributes was never satisfied. She shrugged, stuffing it in her belt. It could be a useful tool when she wanted the blood to trickle out, so that she could feast on the scarlet liquid.
Sky rushed over and managed to obtain a supply pack, but Darkness was faster. In his left hand, he was holding a survival kit of his own. A spear was gripped tightly in his right hand, and as soon as the winged girl saw it, she took off into the sky.
But that didn't stop the black-masked turtle. He aimed the spear at the young girl and launched it, the spear catching her in the wing and causing her to go spiralling downwards.
Darkness ran over to where she fell. He ripped out the spear forcefully and Sky let out a shriek of pain as he plunged it right into her chest, spewing blood everywhere.
The cannon boomed loudly, marking the death of Sky Morningstar. Darkness retrieved the pack and the spear from her, heading over to a bush where he was unnoticed. He put the kits safely in the bush and hid them, returning to the big fight.
Caravina flew sky high, scanning the tributes for Wesley. There he was, fighting with the black cat mutant; Kat. He fended her off using a crossbow, while she blocked him with a...thin metal pipe. Caravina was about to swoop in and grab him from Kat's grasp, but a battle cry was heard behind her.
Kayla charged with a kodachi in hand. An airborne battle had started, and now it was dragon against dragon.
Caravina blocked her attack with a small throwing knife she had found on the ground. The two dragon mutants fought fire with fire, their attacks getting stronger and stronger.
But their battle in the sky was cut short when a knife flew up between them, that was thrown by Caleb. Fortunately for them, the blade didn't cut any of them, nor injure them. The two dragon mutants seperated their different ways and flew off.
Caravina did a banking turn and sped towards her deer friend, but it was too late. Shadow had lunged at Wesley, sinking her fangs into his neck. The venom took effect immediately. Wesley fell to the ground limp, and the cannon boomed: a sign of another tribute's death.
"No!" Caravina screeched, falling to the ground beside Wesley. She lifted his head up, his dull, lifeless gaze staring back at her. She ran her fingers over the two holes in his neck, biting her lip.
The dragon mutant flew away, knowing that this wasn't a time to grieve at the moment. A loud scream was cut off abruptly. Another cannon boomed, making her flinch and announcing the death of dear Michelangelo, the cheerful turtle with the orange mask. He had an axe lodged in his shell, something that none other than Alexandria Woods had thrown at him.
"Run!" Shadow yelled to Kat, tossing her Wesley's supply kit. The cat mutant nodded and took off into the woods, hidden away by the trees. The snake mutant grabbed the crossbow and slithered away, joining her fellow allies that were waiting behind a bush.
"Everyone here?" Darkness said, counting the six Careers. They all nodded, scarred for life at the event that just happened.
"Well then, let's move. We should find shelter quickly before dark," Penelope said. The Careers swung their survival kits over their shoulders and had their weapons ready at hand.
The six tributes journeyed south, where the trees and dense forests were waiting for them.
