"No!"
Anna, Alexandria's little sister, screamed. She and her older brother, James, were watching the 57th Hunger Games. The mutant crow sniffled, burying her facing into her brother's chest as she sobbed. James rubbed his hand on her back to comfort her, but tears were rolling down his cheeks as he did so.
"She was so close...she almost made it."
James draped his wing over Anna. "It's going to be alright. Just as long as we don't get chosen for the next Hunger Games..."
"No, it's not okay!" Anna cried. "The Capitol can't keep doing this! What about all the other families in the other districts?""I'm sorry, I would stop them if I could, but we're powerless against them. They'll kill us if we even try," James murmured.
"Alex was a hero," she said suddenly.
James didn't say a word. He simply nodded.
"Why does the Capitol want us to die for entertainment? Why don't they care about people's lives?" Anna demanded.
"Because they have a...different point of view," he answered carefully.
"But why?!"
"I don't know."

Lauren Kareng paced around in front of the large doors of the training room. Her eyebrows were furrowed and her body tense. Her icy glare was focused in front of her. She stopped, looking around at the perfectly placed equipment around the room.
Blades, chains, all kinds of weapons seemed polished and in tact, with not a single dent in the material. They were placed perfectly and precisely on their racks and in their containers. Ropes, wires, all kinds of survival equipment, they all seemed new and unused. The glass in the rooms for the simulations had a certain sparkle to it. The training dummies were placed neatly in one side of the room. Everything was clean and in their supposed places.
Lauren whipped around and slammed her fist against the wall. She cursed, winced at the pain, but was all the more angry. They couldn't just keep doing this. The Capitol thought it was okay to force citizens away from their homes to participate in a killing game that they never signed up for. The Capitol thought it was okay to watch people kill each other for entertainment. Even if they were in the lower class, it just wasn't right.
She lowered her hand from the smooth surface. She wanted to stop them from doing this, but once citizen against the whole Capitol...it was just impossible. There were people with power. People who could kill others who opposed their plans with just a single snap of their finger. The Peacemakers were well-trained and armed with advanced technology. There was no way she could beat them.
She had been so angry that she hadn't noticed her sister standing in the doorway. Their glares met and they looked away from each other right after.
"What do you want?" Lauren muttered.
"Being angry won't solve anything."
"Why do you care?" she questioned.
"I don't. Stop wasting your time. There's a meeting we have to attend. I thought I'd inform you in case you forgot," Karen replied in a cold tone.
"I'm not going," Lauren said simply.
Karen scoffed. "You can't just--"
"I said, I'm not going."
"Look, I don't like what they're doing either. But you have to follow what they say or they'll actually force you to." The grey leopard crossed her arms. "You can't just ignore their orders."
"The Capitol? They legitimately screwed up this time," Lauren huffed. "'One survivor will remain,' they said. 'There will be only one victor,' they said."
"I saw it in their faces. Once that raccoon girl found that emergency button, they all panicked, and was unable to stop her from pressing it," Karen grumbled.
"Don't think me a fool. I was there too."
"The Capitol is the powerhouse of the entire of Panem. They can do whatever they want and no one can stop them."
"It still isn't right to just do that," said the black leopard.
"Well, it's not like we can do anything about it. We're completely helpless. It's like they say, if you can't beat them, join them," the other muttered. "Let's go. We'll be late for the meeting."
With that, Karen walked out the doors of the training room, leaving Lauren alone again with her thoughts.
