Unexpected Surprises

The walk back was silent. No one said anything, as they never really fancied each other. The only sound they made was the scrapping of dirt under their feet.

At last, they arrived. The three girls stood in front of the Cornucopia. Destiny and Kat stood away from each other, both of the suppressing steely glares. None of them spoke a word until Alexandria broke the silence.

"They're down there." She directed their gazes at the biggest hole, that was closest to the horn shaped structure.

No one moved. Neither wolf nor cat was willing to trust Alexandria, and neither were they willing to jump down to see for themselves. It wasn't a deep hole, but none of them were willing to take the risk.

The raccoon mutant sighed. "Are you going to continue being a bunch of cowards? Come on."

She jumped into the hole, landing swiftly after a few seconds. Destiny followed her down warily.

"Huh? They're not bombs? They're...rocks? I swear I saw something red glow down here, though..." Alexandria mumbled.

"What was that?" Destiny challenged. "I knew it, you were lying!"

The wolf-raven started to take flight, but Alexandria brought up one of the stones and hurled it at her, breaking her wing. There was an unpleasant crack and Destiny let out an agonized scream. She blinked a few times, blacking out and losing consciousness after a few moments.

"What's happening down there?!" Kat shouted.

There was a faint red glow. It was coming from beneath the pile of rocks! Leaving Destiny lying on the ground, Alexandria realized this and started to push the large stones off each other to uncover what was underneath.

It took a long time for Alexandria to haul the rocks off whatever was underneath, but she finally did it, discovering that the faint glow was coming from a small, red button. There was a yellow and black striped label under it, but the raccoon could hardly make out what it said because of the lack of light and the words being mostly scratched off.

Hesitating for a moment, Alexandria shook off her doubts and slammed the little button down, unknowing of the consequences that would follow. Seeing that it hadn't done anything yet, she flung Destiny over her shoulder and climbed back up the hole.

"What did you do to her?" Kat narrowed her eyes at Alexandria.

Before she could reply, a perfectly circular, dark ring quickly formed around the Cornucopia, as if a laser had cut through it. Suddenly, everything within the circle disappeared. The girls watched the Cornucopia plunged down a neverending void like a high-speed elevator. Many other parts of the Arena disappeared down the giant hole as each second passed.

The hole became bigger and bigger, the ground rumbling and shaking every time a part of the Arena vanished down the bottomless pit. The girls stepped back as the sections in front of them began to fall.

Thinking quickly, Alexandria got over her shock and threw the unconscious Destiny into the void. Kat whipped around and clenched her fists tightly.

"Hey!" she shouted.

"I was going to betray you both in the end anyways. She's as good as dead. We all are." Alexandria shrugged.

"You...!" Kat growled, lunging at her. Alexandria barely dodged her attack, and the cat went flying over the edge with a loud scream. She raked her claws against the walls, but they were too smooth so they slipped right off. Alexandria could hear the scrabbling of claws against the stone.

The raccoon was holding onto the jagged edge for support, but she couldn't seem to get a grip on the rock. Her palms began to slip and get sweaty, and as much as she tried, she couldn't haul herself back up. Her right hand slipped off the surface. Unable to hold on any longer, she plummeted straight into the dark abyss.
