Chapter 48

It was around the time for Pamela's birthday party. As normal Caden was going alone. He received a text saying to come in a red tie. Caden did not know why Anderson requested that but he did as told. Maybe it was a colored themed party? Pamela's favorite color was not even red though.

He made sure not to lose his keys and headed to work like always. It seemed he could never escape that place. He parked where he always did. He put his car keys in his pocket and walked inside. Dancing has never really been Caden's thing so every year it seemed he just stood aroun but he did not want to disappoint anyone by not coming.

When Caden entered the party he was instantly greeted by Pamela.

"Caden!" She said excitedly.

They hugged each other.

"Happy Birthday Pamela." He told her.

"Thanks! This year is going to be great!" Pamela assured him.

Before Caden could get a single word in she had already trotted off in her high heals and ball gown like a little girl playing dress up. Caden chuckled. He had no idea what has made her so extra happy tonight. Someone then tapped his shoulder. He turned to see Anderson now.

"Hey." Caden greeted.

Anderson looked at Caden's red tie pleased.

"Hi." He greeted back, observing the red tie still and straightening it slightly for him.

Caden narrowed his eyes at him.

"What are you up to?" Caden wondered.

Anderson gave him a confused look.

"I know that look of yours and it tells me your up to no good." Caden explained, just a tad bit worried.

Anderson simply shrugged and withheld his mischief smile.

"I wouldn't say I'm up to no good." He told him.

"But you are up to something." Caden caught him.

Anderson did not reply and shrugged again. He then walked somewhere else. Caden sighed. Was he ever not up to something? Caden sat down at a table by himself and someone soon joined him.

"Hey Rogers." He looked over to face Landon Keller.

"Hey Rookie." Caden greeted back.

Landon rolled his eyes. It was fair. Caden does not like being called by his last name when he's not working and Landon does not like being called rookie. Honestly Landon was not even a rookie anymore but the title just kinda stuck with him for some reason.

"Why not go dance with someone?" Caden wondered.

Landon shrugged as if that is all anyone could do tonight.

"No one here I wanna dance with." Landon replied with a certain sadness to his voice.

It was silent. It seemed Caden and Landon always ended up sitting together at Pamela's parties. Neither one wanted to dance when everyone else did.

The next song to play was a slow song and like normal people grabbed their friends and spouse to dance with. The doors at the entrance opened but figuring someone was leaving Caden did not bother to look. Though the sound of Landon's voice made him.

"I think I wanna dance with her." Landon admitted.

Caden looked to see who had entered only to be left completely shocked. It was Amari. What was she doing here? Then Caden realized what Anderson was up too.
