Chapter 40

On Caden's way to work the next day he had yet to really apologize to Amari. Truly he has not seen her since she left his office yesterday.

He pulled into work and locked his car door. Caden was not paying attention at first when he walked into work but he noticed he did not hear Daniella greet him. Considering this woman has greeted him pretty much everyday of his life at work for seven years he wanted to see why.

He looked over to see none other than Amari talking to her. Daniella was smiling a smile Caden has NEVER seen on her, which made him smile as well.

*How did she do that?* Caden wondered stopping to admire his partner.. that he did not even want.

The two girls laughed about something when Daniella finally noticed Caden. She straightened up but that smile still remained on her face.

"I'm sorry Caden, I didn't see you. Good morning." She greeted him finally.

"Good morning." He greeted back, still a little confused.

"I was just talking to Amari." Daniella informed. She called her by first name, granted she called him by first name, but mostly she called other agents by their last name.

"Don't you mean-" Caden could not finish realizing he did not even know her last name.

"Never mind." He told them.

"Okay." Daniella said not understanding what that was about.

The two girls told each other goodbye and Amari followed Caden to his office.

"How long you two been friends?" Caden did not deny her presence this time.

"Not long. She just has quite a job you know? She does a lot for this company. Diana is really nice." Amari told her.

Caden stopped.

"Diana?" He was shocked to hear that.

"Yes why?" Amari wondered, wondering if she said something wrong.

"Are you sure?" Caden thought maybe she was the one who got the name wrong.

Amari looked back.

"Have a nice day Diana!" Amari told her.

The woman looked up, smiled, then waved. So indeed her name was Diana. Amari then looked back at Caden proving her point. Caden nodded accepting it but he could not help but question how long he never knew her actual name.

"Ok, I just wanted to make sure we were clear." He said.

When they reached his office Caden sat down in his normal desk chair and Amari sat in the other one. She sat straight and crossed her legs. She did not move a muscle after that. She did not even say a word. Was she afraid of bothering Caden? He almost felt bad if that was the case but the key word was ALMOST.

The phone rang on his desk and he snatched it up not even realizing how much irritation he was holding back till now. Calming himself he answered nicely.

"Yes?" He asked.

Caden listened to the orders of the mission. When he hung up the phone he looked at Amari.

"We have a mission." He  said standing from his seat.

She nodded and followed him downstairs into the armory. Amari needed no help what so ever finding what she needed. Amari was actually a bit faster than him and Caden was not even sure how that worked. He was older was he not? Amari was a bit shorter than normal women but he was not judging her on that.
