Chapter 42

Anderson was looking down at a note when he was interrupted by knocking at his door.

"Come in." Anderson said looking up to see who it was.

He was reading reports from the other day but currently he was reading a thank you note from the Becker family. Anderson became slightly worried when he realized it was James. It never seemed to be a good thing when a Captain came to see him on duty.

"Yes?" He asked him.

"Please let me see the report done on Amari and Caden." James begged instead of asked. It was kind of an out of no where request honestly.

"Well seems there is quite the commotion going on about Amari today." Was all Anderson said.

"Please sir." James requested again.

"On what grounds do you wish to see the report?" Anderson asked professionally.

"Rivers sir please, no boss act right now. I am worried about Amari's safety." James explained.

James did not think that Anderson did not take his job seriously but he knew he was not the type of boss to talk so formal. You could normally talk to him so casually.

Anderson thought about it. He could see the concern in James eyes. Anderson knew how much Amari meant to him. He was sure James loved her more than anyone else here.

"Alright Shields." Anderson agreed.

He pulled out a copy of the report Amari made but not Caden's copy, plus a copy of the current note he was reading just to prove even the Becker's were pleased with the outcome of the mission.

"I'm sure you'll find Amari is perfectly safe with Caden." Anderson said confidently, handing over the files.

"Thank you sir!" James said gratefully.

"I expect to see no more fuss over Amari now." Anderson told him sternly.

"Of course sir." James then left with the files before he could change his mind.

Anderson sighed. He felt he would regret that. It was just if he did not show James then Anderson knew James would know something was not right between Caden and Amari. So honestly letting James read the file and see the tension between the two agents himself, was better than flat out telling James that Caden did not want Amari as a partner. Anderson knew the second choice would end a lot worse than the first one.

The day had certainly seemed to drag on and Caden was just waiting for it to end. He still had quite a few hours before he could go home though. He heard his door open and looked to see who entered without knocking, at first thinking it was Anderson.

It was James Shields. Caden found it kind of odd for him to visit. They were semi-friends, they talked at times, but never to the point they actually paid each other visits. He only assumed he could need something.

"Oh uh.. Hey James." Caden greeted awkwardly.

James stepped more into his office shutting the door behind him. He still stayed close to the door though.

"Caden I just wanted to come tell you something." James explained.

Caden sat up straighter paying attention now.

"I know you and Amari are partners now. I also know you were not the reason for what happened to all your other partners and I am truly sorry you had to go through that. Just please keep Amari safe. For me." James said.
