Chapter 59
Amari began quietly looking through the different rooms for something, anything really, just something to help her find Caden. She found a black door that was thicker than all the others so of course it peaked her curiosity.
"Curiosity killed the cat Amari." She told herself out loud, as if trying to talk herself out of walking in there.
Her toes were basically touching the door but she waited outside for a minute. She listened, pressing her ear to the door. It was silent, dead silent, but that did not assure her it was safe. She slowly opened the door and from just one glance it looked like a room you would use to record things. The walls were designed to be sound proof.
*Yeah step in and have the door lock itself. Then no one will hear you scream.* Amari thought.
It was dark in the room but somewhere back was a small light probably coming from some type of screen. Such a bad idea. It was such a horribly, terrible, risky, bad idea; but she stepped into the room. She did shut the door behind her hoping it would not somehow lock itself. She waited for a second and realized what a crazy theory it was to think she would be locked in.
As she walked deeper into the room she found a wall with monitors and keyboards. She could see hallways on each one. It looked like a security room, like you would see in a mall or hotel, so someone could keep an eye on things. In some weird way this whole place reminded Amari of an underground hotel, just with no guests. She glanced to the right and saw a power box. She questioned what lights it would turn off. Amari looked backed at the monitors. Her eyes rapidly looked from left to right, as if reading a book, trying to keep track of all the screens.
"Come on Caden. I know you're here." Amari said but it was more of a plea to know he did not leave her here.
She waited for awhile and tears started to flow down her face as time went on. She did not want to be here alone. The screens started becoming blurry from the tears in her eyes. Amari sat down in the chair in front of the monitors and placed her hands on the desk the keyboards sat on. Her hands were shaking and she was trying to calm herself down. Did he think she was dead? Was she going to be dead? She swiped all the keybaords off the desk in anger and sadness. She was not going to die here! She was not going to let Anthony win!
She used her arm to wipe her tears away once again. She has not been this scared in a long time. Then with her heart pounding she cought a glimpse of movement on a screen toward the top right corner. Caden! He ran out of a room and then kicked the door open into another room. The door made a bang as it opened which gave away the fact that it picked up sound. Amari watched with hopeful eyes as he walked into different rooms. Was he looking for her? Amari decided she would go look for a stairwell, Anthony had to get her down here somehow right?
Amari looked over the screens that were showing the bottom floor. She could see a red exit sign above a door. She was not sure where but it did not look hard to find. Continuing to look over the screens she found a camera that showed the door to the room she was in. The door was open again..
I think this is the shortest chapter in the whole book so sorry about that! 😅 It's a long story why it ended up so short but if you liked what little bit there was to read leave me a vote or comment!
