Chapter 44

Pamela walked around in the large kitchen, opening the oven door every now and then to check the food. Amari looked around the kitchen amazed, she was amazed about the rest of the house too. Amari was not use to big homes and overpriced things. More counters than needed filled most of the space. In the corner was a shiny silver fridge and a stove of the same color. The walls were an off white color and the floor was white, with pieces of silver that are apart of the flooring for design. Everything was neat and clean and matched.

"Your home is lovely." Amari complimented.

Pamela smiled at the comment.

"Thanks."

Pamela and Amari were alike in many ways but they both came from very different homes. Amari grew up in a small house with not many things, while Pamela has always had everything she could ever want, plus a little extra. Amari worked hard for something simple she may have wanted while Pamela was always given things without even asking. They had such huge differences but yet the girls got along great.

"Amari?" Pamela called.

Amari snapped out of her thoughts and looked at her.

"Thanks for staying partnered with Caden." Pamela said sincerely.

Amari smiled brightly in return.

"There is no need to thank me for such a small task." Amari said honestly.

Pamela laughed.

"Ha! Oh please Amari, I know Caden. He is like my family, a brother. I know being around Caden and Anderson both should not be referred to as a small task." Pamela said, half joking, half being serious.

Amari giggled.

"I understand Caden has had some tough situations with partners before and it is ok if he does not want to be partnered with me. I will still watch out for him because he needs someone too." Amari explained.

Pamela walked over and placed a hand on Amari's shoulder tenderly.

"Amari.. I know it must be hard, so please don't pretend it's not. I am sorry but like I said, I know Caden, and I know he will come around eventually." Pamela said exactly what she needed to hear and Amari appreciated her concern.

The two girls hugged each other.

"Thank you Pamela." Amari said.

Both girls were smiling again.

"If you don't mind me asking though. What was it that made you stay partnered with him?" Pamela asked.

Amari shifted her eyes to the floor. "I grew up in a place where neighbors helped neighbors without wanting anything in return. Where the whole town knew each other and loved each other like family. Even when you did not have much to offer that was ok." Amari fantasized about the memory.

She thought of the place almost sadly though.

"Like you said, he just needs some time. I will let him have his space and watch his back. So if he ever does come around, I will be here. I read a person did leave because of it and that is just unfair. It's not his fault, I am not afraid, and if I will not do it who will?" Amari finished her explanation.

Pamela was left amazed. "How commendable. I knew there was a reason I liked you." She said.

Amari blushed, almost not sure what to say. "Thank you."

Then before they said anything else Anderson and Caden entered into the room.

"Need any help?" Caden and Anderson offered.

"Actually that would be wonderful." Pamela admitted.

She handed Caden a bowl of salad and handed Amari a stack of glass plates. The two did not speak to one another but were willing to help out their friend.

"Her heart is really in the right place." Pamela said quietly so neither one would here her, watching the two agents walk in the room.

"I know, that's why I chose her to be partnered with Caden. He needs someone like her to realize the whole world isn't bad." Anderson admitted part of his reasoning for partnering the two.

"I think everyone needs someone like her." Pamela joked.

"Well he should consider himself lucky then. I know I have everything I need right here." Anderson said pulling Pamela closer to him.

"Me too." Pamela said happily.

She gave him a quick kiss then walked to the dining room too before Amari and Caden had a chance to start arguing. Anderson was assigned the job of getting the chicken out of the oven. He put it in the center of the table. Pamela's favorite room was her dining room.

The room had two small paintings and one large one. A beautiful glass chandler hung over the table. Pamela favored her table most. It was a nice, long, black wooden table with eight chairs in total. Amari still thought the place was awfully big for just two people. The table had a nice gleaming coat to it.

"This is a really beautiful table ." Amari noted.

"Thank you!" Pamela said, happy someone took notice of her expensive table.

"My mom had one just like it when I was a kid." Amari remembered. It was silent.

"It is a very expensive type of wood." Pamela noted wondering how she could afford a table like it.

"I know. I also know what your thinking. Now I could never buy anything like this but when I was a kid my dad made my mom a table with this type of wood. A close friend of their's gave them the wood. So it would only have cost about-" Amari was adding it up in her mind. "Well I don't remember but it wasn't much because he only would've needed the tools to build the table." She admitted.

"Anderson you should've done that." Pamela joked.

The whole group laughed and then it quieted down again.

"How about we get started on dinner?" Pamela suggested.

Everyone agreed because everyone was hungry. The rest of the night was peaceful. They all talked and laughed. Even for once Caden and Amari seemed to be getting along. Anderson was not sure if Caden would go back to avoiding the the reality of Amari being his partner now after tonight or not. So for now he would just enjoy seeing his wife happy, his agent happy, and his best friend happy.

Well Pamela and Amari seem to be getting along. Leave a comment to let me know what you thought. Votes are equally great!
