Chapter 4

Victoria ran down the hill towards the beach. "Victoria!" Caden called her. As soon as her feet hit the sand she ran towards the lighthouse. Caden was annoyed by her actions. She should not run off on her own.

"I'll be back." Caden told Mrs. Andrews in the friendliest tone he could right now.

Caden ran across the soft green grass and onto the beach. He was way behind Victoria but he could catch up. Victoria ran all the way to the lighthouse. The door wasn't locked as expected. She ran straight into the lighthouse and looked up at all the stairs.

"Kaitlin!" Victoria called her as loud as she could. She waited and no reply.

"Kaitlin!" She called again. Still nothing and she sighed deeply.

"They don't pay me enough for this." Victoria complained.

She began her hike up all those steps. As soon as she was at least a floor up Caden had walked in. "Victoria!" He called her. Caden knew she had said she knew where Mrs. Andrews daughter was but Victoria was running off without sharing her thoughts on why she was so sure Kaitlin was here.

Victoria regretfully ignored him. She hated hearing him call her Victoria. Everyone called her that but he had nicknamed her, so it seemed the only time he called her by her full name was when he was really serious.

"I'm gonna be in so much trouble." Victoria muttered to herself. She did not stop trekking up the stairs even after saying that. Caden shook his head and followed.

"They don't pay me enough for this." Caden complained. He began following Victoria.

"I hate climbing stairs." Caden muttered.

After awhile Victoria filially reached the top. She took a moment to rest and put her hands on her knees.

"Never.. Again.." Victoria told herself.

She was never hiking up lighthouse stairs again unless she really REALLY had to. Victoria stood up straight and walked through the top doorway. It had no door so it was much more like an archway.

The view was absolutely beautiful! The sky was bright blue and the clouds were puffy and white. The soothing sound of the ocean could be heard even all the way up here. Then Victoria noticed the little girl sitting up here admiring the view for herself.

"Kaitlin?"

The little girl quickly turned her head to see who called her. Her hair was tied up in a ponytail with a blue ribbon. She was a very pretty girl. The little girl smiled at Victoria.

"Shhh." Kaitlin said, putting her finger to her lips. She put her hand down and turned back around.

Victoria was confused, she didn't understand why she wanted her to be quiet. Victoria slowly walked around the light and sat down beside Kaitlin. An eagle sat just outside of the lighthouse. It was amazing to see it so close.

"You like birds?" Victoria asked with a smile she couldn't hide. Kaitlin smiled and nodded her head.

"Eagles are my favorite though. You can see him perfectly here." Kaitlin told her, admiring the creature.

"Well you should tell your mother before running off. She's really worried about you." Victoria told the small girl.

Kaitlin looked over with a sad expression and a frown. Before she could say something Caden ran into the room. The eagle flew off hearing Caden's loud footsteps.

"Kaitlin!" Caden said happily.

She turned to see who else had called her by name. Kaitlin was a bit confused as to why all these strangers knew who she was. Caden could seem to do nothing but smile.
