Chapter 37

2017 January

Something was not quite right about tonight. It was Saturday and Caden has not had any missions. He almost always receives missions on Saturdays.

Samantha was sitting in his office with him tonight but she was doing something on her phone. She had been acting kinda secretive lately, ever since she started wearing that Looking for Lane bracelet, and Caden wondered if it had something to do with that.

"Hey, Sam." Caden called her.

She looked up from her phone and at him wondering what he needed.

"Yeah?"

"What are you doing?" He asked. It was really a simple question but maybe the answer was not as simple.

"I'm reading Emails." She told him, in an almost unsure way, wondering why he asked.

"You know I've heard you've been looking through old mission files." Caden noted, he did not ask her about it when someone first told him.

She was silent at first as if she was not sure of a good answer.

"It helps on learning how to react in bad situations on current missions." Samantha told him, looking back down at her phone to avoid eye contact.

"Sam?" He called her again.

She looked back up at him again.

"Are you sure that it doesn't have something to do with that Lane girl?" Caden asked her seriously.

Samantha shifted her eyes away not sure of what her exscue was this time.

"Do you honestly think Lane is still out there?" Caden asked her. He was not trying to be negative but it was very unlikely. He also remembers how unlikely it was for him and Anderson to find Julia but it was unlikely for a different reason. She was not missing for years like Lane has been.

"Honestly Caden I don't. I don't think Lane is even alive still." Samantha told him the truth.

"So what are you doing spending so much time looking into her disappearance?" Caden questioned.

She did not want to answer that question either. Looking into a disappearance that happened all the way in France, trying to catch a kidnapper who has not been caught, did not sound like a good idea or a safe one. From all the searching she's done lately though it seemed maybe Lane was not the first person to disappear the way she did. Lane was just the first that someone actually cared enough to look for.

She was about to tell Caden what she thought when the phone rang and honestly she was glad they had a mission. Hopefully it would make Caden forget about the whole thing.

It was Dave on the phone again and by now Caden was use to it. He was just wondering when Anderson would finally talk to him again. After listening to the missions details Caden sighed as he hung up the phone.

"I hate nighttime missions." He told Samantha again.

"I don't mind. I've always been more of a night owl anyway." Samantha admitted. Another thing that was completely different from Tammy.

"Well we better get ready. Two twin sisters went missing a couple days ago and they just called us. One of them is hurt and neither one know where they are." Caden explained, grabbing his phone off his desk.

"How are we going to find them?" Samantha did not understand if they had no location.

"We can track calls just like any other type of law enforcement." Caden assured her.
