Chapter 57

It was silent. Silent for a long time. Caden had no explanation for using a whole clip of ammo and Amari did not want to ask. They made their way to the top floor hoping to find Anthony when they heard his voice. He came out of a room in front of them and stood a few spaces away.

"Anthony where did you go!?" Caden was first to speak.

That was the first thing said from anyone in awhile.

"Up here clearly." Anthony sarcastically responded.

Caden just shook his head. "Yeah, no duh, but why did you leave without saying something?" He asked annoyed.

Anthony pulled out a handgun before replying and Caden's eyes widened.

"When did you-" Caden was interrupted.

"How dumb do you think I am?" Anthony's attitude changed completely. "You think I'm such a coward I wouldn't even investigate a loud noise behind me? Oh please I would hate to meet a person like that."

Caden felt betrayed and tricked so he no longer felt the need to feel sorry for this guy. He aimed his gun too.

"Drop your weapon!" Caden warned.

"I know it's empty."

Truthfully even Caden forgot he used the clip of ammo in his gun. He felt the pouch on his side to find it was empty too. When did he lose all his extra magazines!? Then Amari aimed her gun.

"Stop." She warned, lacking the actual threatening tone like Caden had, she did not want to hurt anyone.

"You can calm down too Amari, I took all your ammo clips too and emptied your handgun as well."

Amari looked worried. She pulled the trigger only to hear the horrid sound of clicking instead of gunfire.

"Your partner is actually a lot lighter then expected. I thought she would be harder to move but she wasn't. Also Caden you were actually the one in the right place when you both woke up." Anthony told him as if that actually meant something to him.

Caden would kill him for even laying a hand on her if it was not for him being the only one with a loaded weapon right now. He aimed his gun up and at Amari. Caden's heart felt like it was going to beat out of his chest.

"Just wait a second Anthony!" Caden begged for him to listen.

Amari gripped her empty handgun's handle even tighter now.

"Please don't hurt her." Caden pleaded.

Anthony looked over at him with a smirk.

"Don't feel to bad Caden. The night's not over yet."

"No!" Caden screamed as he pulled the trigger.

Though to his surprise it was quiet like a silencer was on it but there was none. Amari became tired and looked over to Caden. She fell onto Caden's chest unable to stand and he caught her. Then he saw the dart in her neck. He pulled it off her and looked at it. Anthony did not have a handgun he had a tranquilizer gun.

Then Caden felt a small pinch, like a bee sting. He reached up to his neck. He had also been shot with one. Caden was panicking on the inside but the dart had made him so tired his heart rate was not even beating any faster than normal. He was completely calm and then he was asleep.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Caden woke up on his face. His head was throbbing. He slowly stood to his feet stumbling when he stood. He looked around to see Amari no where in sight. His heart was aching, he felt terrified, and part of him wanted to go ransacking the place till he found her. Though the effects from the dart had not completely wore off yet, keeping him from doing so. He put his back to a wall and slid down to the floor.

He looked at his watch. [11:57pm] HQ is probably getting worried and he wondered if they had tried contacting him while he was out. Caden almost felt no urge to go on. What if Amari was dead? He knew something was wrong with this mission! He knew from the start something was off about Anthony! He should have listened to his feeling because now she was gone. That repeated itself in his mind.

*Amari Shields is gone..*

Then tears flowed down his cheeks, he had to know if she was ok. He pressed the button on his earpiece not caring who heard him. All that would matter was if Amari heard him. His hand fell back to his lap and he sat there.

"Amari?" Was the first thing he wanted to say, hoping she was listening.

"If you can hear me I need to know your ok." He stopped again. He did not know what he needed her to hear.

"I've never said it but I'm sorry Mari. I'm so so sorry about how I firstly treated you. I had no right. I would take it all back if I could because you're not like my other partners. I need you to be ok." Then he cried more stopping him from speaking for a minute.

"I know you can get out of this so wherever you are you need to give me a sign, anything! Just don't give up on me." More silence.

"You're strong. It's in your name remember?" Then it sounded like he laughed, or maybe he cried, or maybe he laughed and then cried. It was hard to tell over an intercom.

No one replied to him. He would have given anything to hear her voice respond to him. He heard a click in his earpiece which meant someone was signing on but he knew it was HQ.

"I'm sorry Rogers." Dave told him.

Though there was nothing anyone could say to make him feel better other than Amari. Then he heard a click of him signing off. He knew he was still listening. Dave was always suppose to listen when they signed on. Which reminded Caden. He clicked off his earpiece so HQ would no longer pick up his voice.

He felt he had some of his strength back and he felt more awake now though he still felt shaken up. He stood to his feet and looked around not really knowing what to do. Where should he start? He really just needed a sign just to ease his heart and mind. Something to tell him he really should go looking for her.

Anthony lied! Amari's gone but that doesn't mean she's dead! If he finds her do you think the outcome will be good? Vote and comment because you guys are great readers!
