Chapter 9
By the time they were back at ARRO it was lunch time. Victoria walked into her office with Caden. Addison was styling Pamela's hair in some crazy way but Addison seemed proud of it.
It was amazing how high class Pamela was but yet she would let a little girl do her hair like that. Pamela was a really down to earth type of girl and Victoria admired that about her.
"Thank you so much Pamela but I'll keep an eye on her again now." Victoria spoke up.
Hearing her mothers voice Addison stopped playing with Pamela's hair and turned around. "Mommy!" Addison exclaimed joyfully to see her mother back.
"Hi honey." Victoria said.
Pamela stood up and walked over. "Again it is no problem. Your daughter is quite the character. I mean that in the most positive way." She assured her.
"Well thank you." Victoria had found herself saying again.
Pamela giggled.
"Stop thanking me. If you ever do need a babysitter you can always give me a call." Pamela offered.
"Than- I mean alright." Victoria said.
Pamela nodded. "Well I should be joining Anderson for lunch right about now so goodbye Victoria, bye Addison, see you later Caden." With that Pamela left.
"Are you ready for lunch?" She asked her daughter. Addison nodded quickly.
"Well lets go." Victoria grabbed her keys and her pocketbook. She swung it around on her shoulder then picked of Addison.
"Would you like to come Caden?" Victoria asked him.
"That would be nice." He agreed.
"You want Caden to come eat with us?" She asked her daughter. Addison hid her face from the adults looking at her but slowly nodded her head. Victoria and Caden both laughed at her reaction.
"Alright then but I'll drive because I need Addison's car seat." Victoria told him.
Caden nodded understanding. They walked out to Victoria's car and she buckled Addison into her car seat. Victoria got in the drivers side and Caden was getting ready to get in the passenger side.
"I want Roger to sit back here with me." Addison told her mother.
Caden seemed completely thrown off. Victoria wasn't sure if it was because Addison wanted him to sit with her or if it was because she just called him Roger. Caden looked at Victoria who was clearly holding her lips shut tight. She was laughing but wasn't making any noise because of her lips being shut.
"Ok." Caden shut the passenger door and got in the back with Addison. Victoria started the car and began to drive to a nearby restaurant.
"Do you call me Rogers a lot at home or something?" Caden had to ask.
"I might." Victoria simply replied.
He was taking that as a yes. The drive was not far and the place was not busy. Victoria got out and unbuckled Addison. She picked her up and locked the car. Once they got inside she put down Addison.
"Three?" The waitress asked.
"Yes." Victoria confirmed.
It had a certain country home style to the place. Which was a kind of out place restaurant to see in a big city but it was a nice change. They all sat down at a booth. Addison sat down next to Caden instead of Victoria. She wasn't hurt she was actually enjoying seeing her take such a liking to Caden.
"I think you have a fan." Victoria told him.
He looked over at Addison who held out the blue crayon for him. He smiled and took it. Addison smiled brightly back when he accepted the crayon.
She then handed her mother the red one. She kept the green one for herself. She looked back up at Caden waiting for him to draw first.
He was about to draw an ARRO but decided he really needed to get work off his mind. So instead he drew a simple cat. Victoria then drew a heart. Satisfied for now Addison let them look at the menu while she drew herself.
By the time they decided what they wanted Caden glanced over at Addison's drawing. She was trying to copy the cat he drew. Why had she taken such a liking to him?
"Caden?" Addison called him.
"Yeah?" He asked.
"You and mommy protect people right?" She asked.
Caden nodded confused at where this was going.
"So does this mean mommy won't come home either?" She asked sadly.
Caden had become sad finally realizing what has happened. The medals and ribbons, her dad protecting people, now worrying about her mother. Her father must have been a soldier.
Caden shook his head. "No sweetheart you don't have to worry. Remember when I said it was my job to follow your mother?" He asked her.
She nodded with the frown still on her face.
"It is my job to make sure your mommy comes home to you." He assured her.
She smiled brightly. "You're a really nice man. I know why mommy likes you now." Addison said happily.
Caden turned over to Victoria who once again tried to hide her face from blushing, and even though she seemed embarrassed, she also seemed happy. She was happy to see Caden and Victoria getting along like that, happy to hear him say how he was going to protect her.
The waitress came back and took their order. The service was quick and anything they talked about after that was mainly small talk. Caden really didn't have much time to talk to Victoria this time with how Addison was always trying to keep his attention. Victoria just smiled and laughed the whole time. Caden was so clearly not use to having a little kid adore him the way Addison does.
When they were done and were walking back to the car Addison wanted Caden to carry her. Victoria was about to tell her that was not how to act but Caden gladly picked her up and carried her. Addison giggled happily.
Caden would have put her in her car seat but he wasn't exactly sure how to buckle her up.
"You must have to be a genies to work that thing." Caden said trying to defend himself.
She rolled her eyes in response. She drove back to ARRO and the rest of the day was quiet. A few agents did get sent out but none of them were Caden or Victoria. When Caden had to leave he told Addison and Victoria goodbye. He really enjoyed meeting her. After seeing how much her daughter loved her he knew he had to make sure to protect her on any mission.
He went to sleep when he got home and for once it seemed he slept really well. He normally doesn't sleep that good but he did tonight.
