Chapter 61
Anthony looked at Amari thinking over the things he was allowed to tell her. He then shifted his gaze to Caden. He could care less what his opinion was. Maybe Anthony was drawn to Amari's kindness which is why he asked her the questions and not Caden.
"You can ask me whatever you want but if I can't answer then I simply won't." Anthony explained, stepping closer.
Caden tensed when Anthony stepped in front of them. Was it too mean to say he really just wanted to punch the guy? Amari placed her hand on top of Caden's fist and as if she was magic his muscles relaxed. It was strange having to talk to him like he was just another person. As if this guy had not deceived and attacked them earlier.
"How did you obtain files from ARRO?" Amari questioned first.
"Someone snuck in at night and stole them but it wasn't me dear." Anthony admitted as if it was not a crime.
So he did not work alone? Amari wished he would stop calling her names. Sure he could call her worse but the fact that they were not unfriendly nicknames was just unsettling coming from him.
"Were you behind the attack in Maine?" Caden asked next.
Anthony thought about his answer carefully.
"No." He answered slowly as if unsure about it.
"Are you telling me the truth?" Caden questioned.
"Of course. I had nothing to do with that attack." Anthony seemed more postive about his answer this time.
The fact he still knew what ambush Caden was referring to gave away the fact he did know who it was though.
"Who do you work for?" Amari asked.
Anthony kept his mouth closed and looked back and forth between the agents. He was not going to answer, he was not allowed to say.
"What are you really trying to accomplish?" Caden asked.
"That's for you to figure out on your own." Anthony replied strictly.
"How many people are involved in helping you with whatever it is?" Amari asked.
Anthony stayed quiet. Caden took a deep breath to calm himself but it came out as more of a growl as he breathed out.
"Why did your boss want you to lead us here?" Amari asked.
It seemed he was extra silent on that one. As if he held his breath. His eyes shifted to the floor and a growing uneasiness could not be hidden. Anthony moved his hand slowly toward his back pocket.
"I can't answer." Anthony said, trying to distract them with conversation.
Caden was not dumb though and took notice, so when Anthony tried swinging a knife at him he was ready. Caden grabbed his arm to stop him from hurting either one of them but let his arm go afterwords to punch him. Caden pulled his hand back and slammed his fist into Anthony's already broken nose. Anthony fell backwards onto the ground and Caden knelled down over him about to send his fist colliding into him again. Anthony moved over to dodge Caden's punch. Anthony brought his knee up to Caden to knee him and then using his hands and feet he threw Caden behind him.
As soon as Caden's back hit the floor after being flipped he scrambled back to his feet. When Caden turned back around his pounding heart slowed down. Anthony had pulled out a knife and had Amari from behind. He was about to say he was bluffing since he never hurt her earlier, other than knocking them out, but as soon as Caden stepped forward Anthony repositioned the knife to her neck.
