Chapter 53
Caden was taking his job as Amari's partner extra seriously. He was going to make sure that nothing happened to her. He texted her this morning and she replied that she was on her way to work. It was her turn to buy coffee so she told Caden he could wait in her office for her. He reached her office door to find it was indeed unlocked. It worried him a bit that she never locked her office door, especially when someone is out to get you.
He would mention something about locking her door later but for now he was glad he could enter because Caden found something he was glad he found before Amari. On her desk, the sun shining off the leans, sat a red pair of glasses. He frowned and only became even more concerned about who was after her. He walked up to her desk and picked them up. He quickly glanced around her office, it accruing to him that someone must have came in here. He knew good and well Amari did not use glasses. She had 20/20 eye sight.
If it was from anger, worry, or just feeling helpless he was not sure but whatever the reason he jerked them up and snapped them in half. He threw them in the trash when he heard the door behind him open. He quickly turned around thinking someone was leaving but it was just Amari entering.
"Good morning Caden." She greeted him with a smile.
Amari looked really pretty to him today. She was wearing a burgundy short sleeved shirt that fit perfect for combat and looked good on her tan skin. She was also wearing grey jeans that were tucked into her black combat boots. She also wore black fingerless gloves.
"Good morning Mari." She set some stuff down on her desk leaving only the trays of coffee in her hand. One coffee tray was stacked on top of the other.
"Thirsty today?" Caden joked with her.
She rolled her eyes but smiled with him.
"Yep so I guess you can't have yours." She joked back with him.
"But seriously who is all this coffee for?" Caden asked.
"Well I found myself thinking about some of the workers here while I was buying your coffee this morning." She admitted.
He smiled at her kindness.
"Well let me help you." He said taking the top tray off her hands.
"Thanks." She gave a warm smile.
"So who specifically is this for?" He asked as they walked out the door.
"My old team." She informed him.
Caden was surprised to hear that. He never knew she was on a team.
"You were on a team?" He asked.
"Not really but I went on missions with them a lot but I was never officially a team member. The team was always so nice to me though." She said.
By the tone in her voice and the way she bought coffee, she clearly cared about them. Caden found himself standing in front of the break room door but when they opened it James was the only one inside.
"Oh- Uh- Hey James." Caden greeted.
"Hey Caden!" He greeted with a smile.
It was kinda strange that he was being friendly but Caden was not going to complain if him and James were fine again.
"What's all this Amari?" James asked her.
She smiled at him before answering.
"I was thinking about you and your team so I wanted to buy you all coffee." She admitted.
