Everyone has been asleep for hours; it's way past midnight and it's now that Mr. Lee is coming home from another long shift at the hospital. He tries his best to walk in quietly so he can go unnoticed. Every night, he comes suspiciously and no one ever knows when he arrives, not even Michelle. If anyone actually knew, they would get the idea of why he always came home late.He tiptoed through the dark hallway but almost to the stairs, he stopped and listened. Snoring. Mildly loud snoring from the living room. He became very alert and grabbed an umbrella off the floor next to the staircase. He eased towards the light switch; as soon as he flipped them on, he pounced into the living room and held up the umbrella. "Who the hell are you?!" he shouted.Chresanto slowly rose from the couch, half asleep. "..Hm?"
"YOU HEARD ME! Who are you and what are doing in my house?!" Mr. Lee hollered as he stepped closer. "Hey man, chill! Michelle brought me here-"
"Why?!" he interrupted.
"What is going on down there?!" Michelle barked as she began rushing down the stairs. "Jordan, what the hell are you doing?! You see what time it is, what are you hollering for?" she whispered. "I found this boy on my couch. The hell you bring him for?" he replied dropping the umbrella.
"I'm watching over him now. He's a foster child.." she took a long pause and sniffed the air. "Why do you smell like that?"
"Like what? And why did you bring him here? We already got two kids to pay for, now we got another? Ugh.." he groaned. The whole time, Chresanto was sitting on the couch, dozing off and listening to their conversation.
"Like a.. a woman," Michelle pouted. Jordan smelled like feminine perfume. "I brought him here to help him, and we can deal with money later. Hell, let's just deal with all that later. Why do you smell like a woman?" Michelle crossed her arms and made a very judgemental face, looking at Jordan. Jordan looked the other way and let out a deep sigh. "Like you said, let's just deal with all that later. I'm going to take a shower.." he said a low tone. He didn't look at her, he just rushed off upstairs and said nothing else. Michelle realized that her husband of 20 years is having an affair with another woman.
Holding back her emotions, she looked at Chresanto. "You can just.. go back to sleep now, okay? Sorry about that." Michelle slowly walked to bed, trying to think of what to do. An hour or two passed, and Chresanto is still awake, laying in the dark. After the argument, he couldn't go back to sleep. Instead, he contemplated everything. Going to court, living in the new home and the sight of Kiloni stuck in his head. In the perfect timing, he heard something on the stairs.
It was her. "Psssst! Hey!" Kiloni whispered. She scurried down the steps and into the living room, then flipping on the lights and sitting in the recliner chair next to the couch. "Hi!" she smiled. Chresanto smirked back at her. "Sup?" Kiloni shrugged her shoulders and leaned back. "I know it's late but I want to know more about you. You're just all mysterious and stuff, I gotta know why!" she whispered. Chresanto chuckled at her curiosity, it made her seem cute to him. "Um ok, haha.. I don't much about you either.." he said in a sleepy tone. "Then we can get to know each other right now, deal?"
"Deal."
"Now tell me Chres. Why are you here?" Chresanto took a long pause to think. He barely knew himself on why he was in that house. "I dunno.."
"Aw c'mon! Nothing happened? My mom just decided you were adorable and brought you here?" Kiloni teased. Chresanto smiled and thought again. "Well.. my last foster home got shot up.."
"Ahh, go on," Kiloni moved closer to listen to his story. "I hung out with the wrong people who did the wrong things. When I wanted to stop hanging around, they got upset and.. yea.." he explained. Kiloni had an interested look on her face. "Gang affiliated?"
