Chapter 21: Bigger Problems

LIZ'S POV

I woke up hearing yelling coming from the front lawn. I looked outside and see dozens of paparazzi lined up against the gate of our house.

Standing in my room I look around at all the pictures on the walls of the family that raised me. I made a huge mistake last night yelling at them. They cared about me and I should respect them.

I quickly get dressed and walk downstairs. I walk into the kitchen and I see my mom standing behind the counter.

"Good morning." I say to her not really expecting an answer.

"Morning." She responds back as she continues making breakfast.

"Um...I..." I begin to say unable to find the right words. My dad then enters breaking my train of thought.

"Oh sorry I didn't mean to interrupt anything." He says as I shake my head.

"No you're not. I actually want to talk to you and mom." I say as he nods and stands next to her. "I want to apologize for my behavior last night. It was completely uncalled for and I was just acting out of anger. There's so much on my mind and it's making me so frustrated." I say to them as they nod.

"What about those pictures?" My dad asks me as I sigh.

"I did drink but I spit it out immediately. It was disgusting. I can assure you I will never drink." I say to them as they lightly chuckle.

"Well there's nothing we can do about the pictures but don't worry it's a matter of time before everyone forgets." My dad says as I nod.

"And about the anger and frustration you're going through Liz I think it's best if you..." My mom begins to say but is suddenly stopped when we hear the front door shut.

"Mom! Dad!" We hear Nick say as we walk towards him.

"Did the paparazzi give you guys a hard time?" My mom asks him and Joe as they exchange looks.

"We have some bad news." Joe says as I look at him confused. "They're not here because of what happened last night. They're here because they found out about the switch." He says as I look over at my dad.

"How? Dad this was only a secret between the family. How did they find they find out I swear I didn't tell anyone." I say as tears begin to form in my eyes.

I turn to see Nick and Joe exchange looks like they weren't saying something important.

"I broke up with Ashley and last night she had an interview where she told the world about Liz." Joe says as I shake my head and tears begin to fill my eyes.

NORMAL POV

"We could reach out to her team and tell them to convince everyone that this was a misunderstanding." The Jonas family publicist says as everyone gathers in the living room.

"So we're going to lie and hope no one reads into this?" Liz says as Paul looks over at his wife for help.

"We're going to need time to decide what we should do." Paul says as the publicist agrees.

"Just one piece of advice, everyone needs to lay low until this all calms down." The publicist says as the Jonas kids exchange looks.

"You got it." Kevin says as his siblings nod in agreement.

"Paul can we talk about something in your office?" The publicist says as Paul nods and they both leave the room.

"I need to get my mind off of things." Denise says leaving the room with Frankie and Dani following behind.

"I heard there's a good movie showing." Kevin says turning the TV on as Joe walks out to the back patio. "Which one do you think is good? Kevin asks Liz flipping through channels.

"Whichever you prefer." Liz says to Kevin before following Joe out to the patio.

LIZ'S POV

Before opening the glass door out the the patio I took a deep breath. I was nervous to confront Joe. This family was going through a difficult time and we were the ones going through the most change.

"Hey." I say to him as he looks up at me and gives me a shy smile.

"Hi." He says as he motions for me to sit next to him.

"So you broke up with Ashley." I say as he chuckles slightly and shakes his head.

"I though she was going to kill me. Which is why I took Nick to serve as a witness." He says as I slightly laugh.

"I know you've been having a difficult time and I find it kind of unfair that everyone's so focused on my problems but not yours." I say to him as he shakes his head.

"Don't worry about me. I'm just going through some relationship problems." Joe says as I sigh.

"What happened between you two?" I ask him as he takes a deep breath.

"First of all she's not the person I thought she was, she wasn't giving me my space and that's pretty much it." He says as I look up at him concerned.

"She wasn't the person you thought she was. What did she do to make you realize that?" I ask as he looks down at his hands.

"Well she tormented someone who means alot to me. She made me turn against them and I didn't like the person I was becoming." He says as I now realize that I'm that person unless she was doing this to another person. "It's you. It wasn't someone else." He says as I laugh.

"No I got that." I say as he laughs.

"Liz I'm sorry for everything that happened on tour. It was your first world tour and I ruined it by bringing along Ashley and her negative attitude." He says as I shake my head.

"It's fine. You weren't fully aware she was a monster." I say causing him to laugh again.

"I promise you that once those dumb paparazzi are off our lawn. I'll take you to get some frozen yogurt or any you want." He says as I turn excited.

"Oh my god! Yes! You better keep it." I say as he nods and we shake hands.
