LIZ'S POV
"This is it." Valerie says to my family and I as we approach the grave.
Yes, the entire Jonas family was back in Texas once again but this time it was only for a short time and there was a good reason behind it 2 days ago I turned 13 meaning that it has been 13 years since the switch happened and today we got to see the grave of the real Jonas sister.
"Is this grave your husband's?" My mom asks as she motions over to the grave that read Robert Lopez, beloved son, husband, father and grandfather.
"It is. Funny story actually he wanted his tombstone to read beloved star wars fan but before he died he thought it wasn't such a good idea." Valerie says as we all laugh.
"Can I do that?" Frankie says as we continue to laugh. As we stop laughing my dad passes the flowers to my mom and she approaches the grave.
"Kassandra Rosanna Lopez, 1998-2007" read the tombstone.
It was actually the first time that we took notice of her name. My name. We haven't talked about her much since our main focus has always been on the dangers Adriana bought.
After my mom dropped the flowers, next was my dad and my brothers followed from oldest to youngest and then finally me.
I looked at the grave for what seemed to be like eternity. I just couldn't get over the fact that this should have been me. I was meant to be Kassandra not Liz. She was the one who was suppose to be celebrating her 13th birthday.
"I always come every year on her birthday but today it's even more special." I hear Valerie say breaking my train of thought.
"Thank you for bringing us. It means alot." My dad says to her as I stand up and join my siblings.
"Another thing I do each year is buy a cake and share it with the family. Would you want to join us this year?" Valerie asks as my parents look back at us and we all nod together.
"Well then let's go." My mom says as we all walk away. Before walking away I stay back at take one last look at the grave and sigh.
NORMAL POV
"Oh my god you're Liz Jonas!" A young teenage girl says as Liz gets out of the car and takes her sunglasses off. "Could I get a picture?" She asks as Liz nods.
"Of course." Liz says as the teenage girl takes out her phone and snaps a selfie.
"Thank you so much." She says before leaving.
"I'll only be in there a couple of minutes. Would you like anything?" Liz tells the driver from the window as he shakes his head. "Alright I'll be back." She adds before running into the restaurant.
Liz enters the almost empty diner and scans the room. In a booth near the corner she spots the person she was looking for. She takes a deep breath and slowly makes her way over.
"Hi." Liz says shyly as she takes a seat making the person across from her look up.
"Thank you so much for meeting up with me." The person across from Liz says as she nods.
"Of course. I mean after all you are my mother." Liz says to Adriana as she smiles.
A few days after Adriana showed up at the studio Liz received a letter from her saying that she wanted to meet up with her at the same restaurant she met Valerie the next time she was in Texas. A few more letters were exchanged between the two and in one of those letters Adriana wrote that the only way Liz's parents would approve of a relationship between mother and daughter was if Adriana got back on her feet and proved herself worthy however Adriana needed money for that.
"I bought you something. Since it was your birthday a couple days ago." Adriana says as she hands Liz a flower. "I know it's not much but I can't give you a present like you parents can." She adds as Liz shakes her head.
"No it's fine. I appreciate it." Liz says as Adriana nods.
"I'm assuming that you're parents don't know you're here." She asks Liz as she nods.
"As far as they know I went out to get food. This is the first I'm actually allowed to go out by myself. Since you showed up at the studio they've been paranoid." Liz says as Adriana sighs. "How did you know where to find me?" She adds
"You're a celebrity. Pictures of your every move are everywhere." Adriana says as Liz nods.
"Look I really want to get to know you. I want to know everything. I don't care why others say about you. You're my mother and I want to help you get out of the situation you're in." Liz says as Adriana nods.
"Speaking of which do you have what I asked you for?" Adriana asks as Liz nods.
"I do. I really hope this helps you." Liz says handing her an envelope.
"Order 17!" The restaurant cashier yells out as she emerges from the kitchen with a bag.
"That's my order. Be right back." Liz says standing up and taking the bag from the cashier. As she turns back to walk back the table she notices Adriana gone.
Liz quickly walks out of the restaurant and looks around to see if Adriana was near. There was no sign of her. Liz stood there in disbelief. Adriana had run off only after Liz handed her the money she said she needed. Suddenly Liz jolts hearing her ring tone. It was her mom.
"Hey." Liz says answering the phone.
"Hey Liz are you okay? I mean you've been gone for a while now?" Denise asks Liz as she takes a deep breath.
"I'm on my way. There was a mix up with the food order." Liz says as she walks over to the car and hops in.
"Well okay. I'll see you when you get here." Denise says to her daughter before hanging up.
As the car begins to drive off Liz looks out the window hoping to catch a glimpse of Adriana but unfortunately she didn't see her anywhere. Liz groaned knowing that she made a huge mistake.
