Chapter 25: Closer & Closer

NORMAL POV

"You guys sure you want to do this?" Paul says into the phone as he talks with Kevin.

"We're positive. We'll be there by nighttime." Kevin says as Paul sighs and nods.

"Alright have a safe flight. I'll see tonight." Paul says as his eldest son ends the call.

"Are they coming?" Liz asks her father as she approaches him.

"Yeah they're catching the next flight to Texas." Paul says making Liz sigh and shake her head.

"I shouldn't have told them but I needed someone to talk to and..." Liz begins to say before her dad puts his hand on her back calming her.

"They're doing this because they think it's best for them to give you support in person." Paul says causing Liz to smile.

"I'm scared to know what happens next." Liz reveals as her father nods his head.

"We all are." He says as she sighs.

"I'm here to see Dr. Roberts." They hear someone say to the receptionist from the waiting room. Could this be the person they were waiting for?

"He's right this way." The receptionist says as they both walk into Dr. Roberts office.

"C'mon." Paul says as he and Liz walk after them into the doctor's office.

"Ms. Lopez, hi how are you?" Dr. Roberts says to the older woman who just walked in.

"I'm fine...um what's this about exactly?" She asks looking around the room and seeing other people in the room.

"Please sit." The doctor says as she gladly sits while the Jonas family stand close by. "It's my understanding that you have a daughter, Adriana." The doctor says as she becomes tense.

"What about her?" She says as Denise and Paul exchange confused looks.

"She had a daughter that was born on midnight on New Years Eve and it has come to my attention that the baby was switched at birth." He says she turns and looks at Liz.

"That's why they're here, right?" She asks looking back at the doctor as he nods. "You're my granddaughter." She says standing and being face to face with Liz.

"I am. It's nice to meet you." Liz says shaking her hand. "This may be sudden but we have to know...where is your granddaughter?"

LIZ'S POV

"She hasn't spoken to her daughter in 5 years?" Kevin says confused and surprised as the newly reunited family sit in the living room.

"It's really unlikely for her to contact her daughter and your biological sister." My mom says as we all sigh.

"So what now? We go back home and try to live normal lives?" Frankie asks as we look towards our dad.

"The paparazzi finally left our front lawn. So that's good." Nick adds as my dad bows his head.

"I guess we can go back home. Wait it out there." My dad says as I try not to look so surprised. It's unbelievable to see how much faith my dad has.

"Liz, I have those things you asked me to bring." Frankie says as I nod knowing that this was his way of him wanting to talk to me alone.

"What's up?" I ask him once we're in the hallway alone.

"I know you and that means that I know what you're thinking. You want to find Adriana on your own." Frankie says as I shake my head.

"You're such a little know it all." I say walking away but he quickly grabs my arm.

"Yes I am a know it all which means that I know our entire family wants to find her too. Tell them and you won't have to do this on your own." Frankie says causing me to groan.

"Briana's words are rubbing off on you." I say as he shrugs his shoulders.

"Kids." We hear our mom say as we turn confused.

"Yeah?" I say confused.

"You two aren't good at whispering." We hear her say as Frankie gives me an apologetic look.

"Now you won't have to do this alone." Frankie says as I nod.

NORMAL POV

"Thank you for agreeing to meet me here." The older women that they met yesterday at the doctors office says as Paul, Denise and Liz nod.

"This is a really nice place." Liz says looking around at the small and comfortable Texas diner.

"You don't have any of these in Hollywood, do you?" She says as Liz smiles slightly. "Let's sit." She says as everyone takes a seat.

"So...um...what's your...name? I mean other than Ms. Lopez." Denise says as the older women chuckles.

"It's Valerie." She says as they all nod.

"Could you tell us about your granddaughter?" Paul asks as Valerie smiles and shakes her head.

"She was beautiful. She had long curly hair that was difficult to get brush through it. Her smile would light up a room and she was so active. It was hard to keep up with her." She says as Liz looks over at her parents who were playing close attention.

"Do you have other relatives? Daughters? Sons? Other grandchildren?" Liz asks as Valerie nods.

"I do. Other than Adriana I had another daughter and two sons. They grew up and gave me 9 grandchildren." Valerie says as everyone smiles at her.

"My cousins." Liz says as they turn to look at her surprised. Up until that moment Paul and Denise had completely forgotten that Liz was related to Valerie.

"Have you told you're family? About all this?" Denise asks as Valerie nods.

"I have and they're doing their best to find Adriana." She reveals as they sigh and nod.

"It's almost like she doesn't want to be found." Paul says as Valerie adjusts herself in her chair.

"Mom, dad, could I have a moment with Valerie? Please." Liz says as they nod and stand.

"We'll be over there if you need anything." Paul says as Liz nods.

"Listen I don't want to talk about all this. I just wat to talk about you. I want to get to know who you are." Liz says as Valerie smiles at her.
