"I've told you for the millionth time, York- I'm not sick!" Carolina complained.
"Uh huh," York sarcastically agreed, "So that's why your fever is at... A hundred and two degrees?"
Carolina growled and shrugged like the stubborn solider she was. York sighed, setting down the thermometer.
"Look, just let me take care of you, okay?"
Carolina raised an eyebrow.
"And why's that?"
York sighed again, flustering and stuttering as he spoke.
"I-I... I donno... I wanna help you. I mean, I was blown up and you were there for me, so... I just want to return the favor."
Carolina smiled, and laughed.
"You don't need to return anything. It's just a fever!"
"Yeah, well, you're Misses I'm-Invincible-and-you-can't-kill-me, so this is probably the only chance I can help you."
"York..." Carolina comforted, "That doesn't matter. It's the thought that counts."
"Well, I donno, my thoughts are pretty shit."
Carolina rolled her eyes and grabbed York's arm, dragging him over to her level. She grabbed his shoulders, making sure he was starring straight at him so the next words would get through that horrendously thick skull.
"I love you. Remember that. No amount of babying and fighting can change it."
At first, York shrugged it off and just assumed it some inspirational thing. But he decided to act it out. For Carolina.
He hugged her and she hugged back, surrounded by the sounds of a busy medic station aboard the Mother of Invention.
All was normal.
All was peaceful.
That is, until she threw up all over his back.
~~~~~
'That's how it all started,' York would claim, 'Her lovely words and god awful vomit.'
Wash joked about how it would make an awesome story for the Grandkids, and North did nothing but tease him about it, and promised to use it as 'friendly' blackmail in he future.
But it wasn't always so blissful.
Complications happen.
Fights took place.
Bickering ensued.
Work was calling.
York tried to stay strong, and he did, despite his doubt and fears.
He knew he could stay strong for Carolina, and would continue to for the rest of his life.
But life takes turns.
One of those turns being Carolina tossing a lighter back to him.
~~whoopsie that turned dark but this'll be cute I swear~~
"Holy shit, you're a human microwave!" Church cursed after feeling Tex's forehead.
"What? I don't feel sick." She stated.
"Well, I'm no Doc, and technically that's a good thing. You're sick as fuck."
Tex waved it off and got out of bed, walking to the kitchen. Church instantly went into worry-mode.
"Wait! What are you doing? Just sit down or something!"
Ted stared at him, deadpanning.
"Church, I'm fine. Look, I can operate on my own, isn't it amazing?" She said sarcastically as she started to pull out a Mess kit.
"Ha ha, very funny. Seriously, your head is a nuclear war head. Go to sleep!"
"I'm not tired! And I'm not sick!" She protested. Church growled and grabbed the food from her, holding it behind him for emphasis.
"Will you beat me up for this? Probably. But this is for your own good. I'll make you food and all, just please... Go. To. Sleep."
Church winced, preparing for the roundhouse kick directly for his eye, but nothing happened. He peeled one eye open, only to see Tex standing still with her arms crossed.
"... Aren't you gonna kill me or something?"
"Not worth it. And I'm not sick."
"Then explain why your temperature is high!"
"I don't know, I'm sure there's something about pissed off people being natural hotheads."
Church groaned.
"I'm trying to help you here!"
"I don't need help, I'm not sick!"
"Oh, well what are you then?!" Church snapped back.
Rex rolled her eyes and snatched the food kit away from him, going back to her room.
"It's called Pregnant, dumbass." She called behind her.
"Ha ha, very- Wait... What?"
