Ok, ok, ok.
In retrospect, climbing up a ten foot wall was not a good idea.
Damn you Romeo, and your romantic tendencies.
Also, it would've been wise to not throw rocks at a glass pane.
What was that a reference to anyway?
Palomo waited helplessly in the cold right outside the Red troop's cabin. They were all part of Captian Grif and Simmons' team, and Palomo was a blue. Not they had any rivalry family-conflict stuff.
If anything, it was Simmons' team versus Grif's.
But enough about that, why not focus on the fact that Palomo is attempting to scale a fucking building.
Wow, buddy. You've got issues.
Palomo struggled with the low hanging vines of the cave, fairly sure that they would break off in seconds. However, he stupidly continued up the brick wall.
"Fuck... This..." He mumbled, not remembering ever having to do something that required this much strength. That means a lot, considering that Wash was the new training captain for both the Feds and Republic.
Once he pulled himself to the top, he took a moment of silence for his legs, and switched his legs over to the other side of the wall. At this location, the window to Red cabin was just out of reach.
So, what does a helpless romantic do?
He throws a rock.
Clever.
Palomo picked up the small, smooth pebble right beside him and chucked it at the window.
However, the sound isn't was caught the whole Red team's attention.
It was the yelp and shout when the pebble bounced back.
Jensen was the closest to the window, and was reading a boring field manual. When she heard the cry for help, she instantly looked up from the pages, only to quickly realize that the shout came from outside. She put her book down and opened the window latch, looking around to see no one in sight.
"Did you hear that?" Volleyball girl asked.
"Yeah..." Jensen wondered aloud. Where did that scream come from?
"Ow... Down here..." A familiar voice grumbled.
Jensen looked down to see Palomo hanging from a dangerously thin vine, with a fracture in his helmet with a... Pebble sticking out through the crack?
"What happened? What did you do?"
"Uhh, can you... Y'know, help me up first?"
"Oh, right!" Jensen exclaimed, and carefully made her way out to the wall as Volleyball girl went to go get help.
Palomo desperately held onto the weakened plant, because falling down a ten-foot wall was not on his to do list.
"Let's see, can you try and edge your foot into that wall? Then reach up and I'll try and help."
Palomo nodded, warily shifting his foot around for a hole in the brick wall. Once he found two cracks, he gained balance and stretched his hand out toward Jensen, while the other was still on the vine. Jensen reached down, grabbing his hand and hoisting him up, while Palomo steadily made up way up the wall.
Once he reached the top, he took a deep breath and hopped to the window's ledge, and made his way inside. Jensen followed after she checked for any damage done to the wall.
"Okay," Jensen started once they got inside, "You got a reason for why you've got a rock stuck in your visor, or...?"
"Uhh... Happy Valentine's Day?" Palomo claimed questionably.
Jensen laughed, and gave him a hug.
"Just don't fall next time, Romeo."
"Sure thing, Nurse." Palomo joked.
That got him a slap on the head.
Before he could even get out an 'Ow', Simmons and Grif walked in, confused.
"Who tried to break in?" Simmons asked frantically.
"Palomo." Jensen answered, as if he had done nothing wrong.
"Ohhh... Nice!" Grif exclaimed, holding up a hand for a high five.
"Grif!" Simmons scolded, slapping Grif's hand down, "As much as a romantic gesture that is, he can't just... Go rock climbing around base!"
Grif shrugged, waving Simmons off.
"It's fine! It's not like he was Hargrove himself. Just give the kid a break."
Simmons watched as Grif calmly walked around, and fumbled after him.
Jensen waited until both captains left before she panicked and started to shove Palomo out the door.
"H-Hey! What are you doing?!"
"I'm trying to get you out of trouble." She sassed, successfully pushing him out the front door.
Palomo sighed dramatically, and started to pick at the pebble in his visor.
"Goodnight!" Jensen exclaimed as she gave Palomo a hug, only to quickly shut the door as Simmons' I-hate-everything voice echoed through the base.
The door shut with a click, and Palomo didn't feel all that bad about Valentine's Day for once.
...
A great love, is a look like a good memory...
