Megan Lewis

I heard a hard knock on the door. That's when I realized I had fallen asleep. I rubbed my face and walked over to the door. I stopped and thought about the only person who could be behind this door. I don't really feel like talking to him right now.
"Who is it?" I asked.
"It's me! Jade! Your friend!." I smiled and opened the door. I saw her standing there with Alex behind her. I rolled my eyes. I can't believe he used the kid.
"Hey, what's up sweetheart?" I asked and she just smiled at me.
"I wanted to say bye. I'm sad we didn't get to play." I put on a sad face.
"I'm sad too Jade. We'll get another chance to play soon. Pinky promise?" I stuck out my pinky and she smiled. She wrapped her little pinky around mine and nodded.
"Deal! Bye Megan." She gave me a hug. She let me go and then grabbed Alex's hand. They walked down the hall and I closed the door. I went back to the bed and climbed in it. I pulled the covers up to my neck and sighed. Alex and I haven't been the same since that night in the kitchen. I shouldn't sit around and wait for something that could never happen. Maybe I should've thought about David in a different way. There was a knock on the door and it swung open.
"Hey, can we talk?" I sat up and looked at him. His features weren't hardened like that were this past week.
"Are you going to yell at me?" I asked seriously. He shook his head quickly.
"Nope. Just talking." He was still standing in the door. I patted the bed and moved towards the head board. He sat on the edge of the bed.
"What do you wanna talk about?" I asked rubbing my eyes so I could wake up.
"I don't like that David guy." My eyes went wide.
"What? That's what you came in for?" I asked.
"I don't like him." I rolled my eyes.
"And I care why?" He narrowed his eyes at me. I haven't gotten one of these looks in a while.
"You should care. I can tell he likes you." I looked at him like he was stupid, which he was being in this moment.
"Why should I care what you think? You haven't talked to me in a week. I don't think I need your opinion on anything." He sucked his teeth.
"She was my girlfriend. Really serious."
"What?" I was a little confused. He just kept talking.
"She was my assistant, just like you were. She was great at what she did, just like you are. And she was my girlfriend." I then realized he was talking about Maria. He was actually talking to me about her.
"Alex, you don't have too," he shook his head.
"I need too." I nodded and he took a big breathe. "We, were perfect you know. Well at least I thought we were. Everything was going great. I was even thinking about asking her to marry me. But, she left me, for Jeffery Baxter. And when you told me, that you had been with him, I just got so angry." He started to ball up his fists. "But I can't, I can't stay angry. I can't. Because if I stay angry, then you will stay angry with me. Then I wouldn't be able to, be with you."
"What?"
"From the first day you walked into my office, I knew there was something different about you. Your confidence enticed me. And I loved the way you stood up to me. You weren't afraid and I liked that about you. You've had me hooked on you, whether I wanted to admit it or not. I just had so many excuses to try and cover it up." I laughed and nodded.
