27 Katniss

The cool blue waves gently bob against my skin in a soothing motion. The water was so refreshing that i could have stayed there for ages. As I float above the water for a bit I look up at the sky and wonder,; what would Prim and my mother be doing right now? what would Peeta be doing right now?

"Hello! I cannot help myself to compliment your swimmers!" I am snapped out of my thoughts by a girls voice from next to me. Startling myself awake I quickly snap out of my floating position.

"Oh um, hi! oh, thanks, eh I got them from seafolly actually in Australia." I quickly reply to this girl. She actually looked about my age, she was fairly tanned and had blonde hair.

"I'm Joy, Joy Dominic's-Keeth" She says to me holding out her hand.

"Katniss," I say shaking her hand. She smiles sweetly at me. "Katniss, what an unusual name . Hmm I like it, very strange."

"So Katniss, where are you from?" she asks me.

"what?," I gasp at her. She looks at me sweetly before taking her hand and placing it on my forehead.

"Are you ill hunny?, I asked you where you were from, it is pretty obvious that your not from around here." She explains. I look at her bewildered. She just smiles at me back.

"How do you know that?" I question her. She sighs loudly and rolls her eyes.

"Hunny, you're accent isn't what we have. And hunny, you have no tan! Obviously your not from here!" She laughs. A girly giggle. The types that make your toes curl.

"I am from Panam. I moved here to live with my dad for a while" I explain.

"Where about are you living now?" She questions me. I raise an eyebrow at her and she laughs.

"Don't worry, I can assure you I am not going to rock up at your house tonight with an axe and try to kill you." She laughs at me.

"I'm actually living with my step-mum and my dad and my three siblings at the moment in Beverly Hills right now, I only arrived there like a few weeks ago." I explain to Joy.

"Woah! you live in Beverly? No way! You must be filthy rich!" she gasps at me. I blush hard, luckily since I'm in the water it doesn't show as much.

"Well we aren't that rich to be honest, the house isn't that big, it is just really expensive and the texture of it is quite modern so yeah." I try to explain to her, she could be my first friend here! and i really want a friend who likes ME! and not my house or my money.

" Well I live in Santa Monica, here but i live in sunset park. It is only 18minutes to Beverly Hills from there." She explains.

"Thats where I was going! I am going to pick my sister up from her friends like in ten minutes." I tell her.

"Oh okay. I am actually getting a taxi there since I was dropped of at the beach by my older sister." She replies.

"I should probably get going now, my mum will be waiting. We're going to my dad and my younger brothers football game today and if I'm late my sister will kill me." She tells me.

"Um I know this is really weird, but I think we could become good friends in the future, um... Would you like a ride with me to sunset park since I'm going that way?" I ask her nervously. I really wanted to befriend this girl.

"Umm... You know what? Why not? But if my dad found out I would probably be dead right and be skinned to the bone when I get home" She jokes as we swim back to shore, dodging all the people in the water.
