Lydia POV
(Let's pretend they're 14 to make it cuter)
I was hanging out with my best friend Stiles in his room. I felt comfortable and secure when I was with him. We were just sitting on his bed, joking around like always. It's been that way for years, Lydia and Stiles, the dynamic duo. But I kinda always liked him a little more than a friend. I couldn't help it. He was sweet, kind, adorable, respectful, and treated me like a princess.
"I still can't believe Malia dumped you. She's crazy."
Stiles shrugged.
"It was like 3 weeks ago. I'm over it Lydia"
I nodded.
"I know, but still. Who in their right mind would break up with you? You're so nice to everyone, not to mention, cute as a heck."
I couldn't help but notice a faint pink tint cross Stiles's cheeks as you said that.
"I'm nowhere as cute as you." He said in a shy voice. I looked up at him, but he stayed looking down at his lap. Did Stiles just complement me? I gave him a playful shove.
"Oh shut up. No I'm not."
He shook his head.
"You should see the way guys look at you. They practically drool." He muttered. I could hear a tinge of jealousy in his voice.
"Please. No guys stare at me. Why would they? I'm nothing special."
Stiles finally looked up and met my eyes.
"Do you really not know you're beautiful?" He asked, confusion in his voice.
"Wh-what?" I stutter out.
"You know you're beautiful, right Lydia?"
I didn't answer.
"Did you really not know that?
I shook my head. Stiles laughed in disbelief.
"I'm not beautiful Stiles. Not even close."
He looked at me like I was crazy.
"Yes you are Lydia. Inside and out. I can't believe no ones ever told you."
I shrugged.
"No ones ever told me because it not true. I'm just me Stiles. Im not beautiful."
He shook his head.
"That's it, hand me my ukulele." He commanded.
I laughed but did as I was told. Stiles pulled out his laptop and typed something into YouTube.
"What are you doing?" I asked him. He didn't answer, but pulled up the lyrics to some song.
"Just listen, okay?" He asked calmly. I nodded.
He began to strum his ukulele. I didn't recognize the song a first, but soon realized it was You're Beautiful by James Blunt. I smiled and rested my hand on his knee.
"My life is brilliant,
my love is pure.
I saw an angel,
Of that I'm sure."
He sang softly. My heart melted with every word. He continued the song.
"You're beautiful
You're beautiful
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face,
In a crowded place
And I don't know what to do.
Cause I'll never be with you."
There was that incredible voice that I loved. He was always shy about his singing voice, but I adored it.
"There must be angel
With a smile on her face
When she thought up that I should be with you. "
I smiled at him. His cheeks grew pinker and pinker. Stiles's fingers dragged along the strings as he approached the final verse.
"But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you."
He strummed once more before setting the ukulele down on his lap. He looked very satisfied with his little serenade.
I looked up into his brown eyes and blushed.
"That was beautiful Stiles. But some of those lyrics are a lie."
He sighed.
"No they're not Lydia. You really are beautiful."
I laughed softly.
"No, not those lyrics."
He looked confused.
"Then, which lyrics?"
I sighed and looked away from his gaze.
"The ones that say I'll never be with you" I tell him.
Out of the corner of my eye, I could see his face light up as a huge grin makes its way across his lips.
"REALLY?!" He asks excitedly, then clears his throat. "I mean um, really?"
I nod slightly. I never thought Stiles would be interested in me, so I was in a bit of shock.
"Truth is Lydia, Malia didn't dump me. I broke up with her because..." he trailed off.
"Because?" I asked, encouraging him to continue.
"Because, well...you're the one that I want. Not her or any other girl. I wanna be with you." He said softly and carefully, in fear of being rejected.
Little did he know, I had been dreaming of being his for years now. I didn't want to spend another second being just his friend. And he felt the same way. Stiles looked up at me and met my green apple eyes, expecting me to say something. But I didn't say anything. I just leaned forward and pressed my lips to his. He seemed surprised at first, but then kissed back. We finally broke apart and stared at each other in a comfortable silence, just enjoying each other's presence. He brought his slightly cold hand to my cheek and I pressed into it.
"I really like you Lydia."
"I really like you too Stiles,"
He smiled happily and kissed me again.
For the first time, I felt truly beautiful, all thanks Stiles.
