Trigger Warning.

Stiles POV

It didn't feel real. It had been 32 minutes since I got the call that Lydia was in the hospital. I wasn't emotionally stable enough to drive, so Scott picked me up and drove me to the Beacon Hills hospital. The traffic was heavy and we weren't even moving.

"It's just bad dream. This isn't happening. I'm home in bed, and Lydia's fast asleep on my chest. I'm gonna wake up any minute and everything will be okay." I said out loud. Scott gave me a worried look.

"Stiles, I'm so sorry, but you have to stop saying that. You have to stop telling yourself that this is a dream. This is really happening. Lydia is really in the hospital. It's gonna be okay man. I promise." Scott said in attempt to assuage my fear.

"Eight hours though? No one found her for eight hours? Is her aunts house that far from Beacon Hills that no other car passed hers until eight hours after the crash? It's not plausible. This has to be a dream."

"Lydia said her aunt lives in a remote town." Scott defended.

"But I'm her husband, Scott. How could I not know she was missing for eight hours?" I said angrily.

"It's not your fault. She crashed on her way there. You thought she was at her aunts all day. You couldn't have known she crashed her car." He said. I sighed. The traffic finally began to move again. We arrived at the hospital twenty minutes later.

"Her aunt lives three hours away. We assume her legs got tired so she put them her feet up on the dashboard. You need two legs to drive, so we're guessing she only put her left leg up. When the other car hit her, her leg went straight back. It was crushed. It could've been much worse. She's lucky she didn't break her pelvis. Your wife could've been paralyzed. " The doctor informed me. I nodded softly and thanked him. Scott put his hand on my shoulder.

"Where is she now?" Scott asked. I immediately felt bad for snapping at him in the car. I was so lucky to have him here with me. He was asking questions I hadn't even thought of.

"Lydia's still in surgery. It should be another forty minuets. You can wait in the waiting room until she's done. I'll make sure you're updated whenever something happens." The doctor said. Scott and I made our way to the waiting room and sat down. Forty minutes felt like forty years. I braced myself for the worst case scenario. Worst comes to worst, Lydia dies. I become a widower and live the rest of my life alone. Lydia and I had only been married for a year. We were just talking about having kids last week. Now, she's lying dead on an operating table for all I know. I held my head in my hands and waited for an update.

Melissa came into the waiting room and looked around. I grabbed Scotts arm and pointed to her. Melissa spotted us and came over. Her face was grim. It no longer felt like a dream. This was more like a nightmare.

"Is she dead?" I asked before Melissa had a chance to say anything. Melissa sighed deeply.

"She's isn't dead." Melissa stated. My heart began to beat again. I felt relief flood through my body. Scott smiled proudly and squeezed my hand. Melissa's face didn't change. She still looked upset.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Lydia isn't dead, but her injuries are very severe. Her heart stopped twice during surgery. She's awake now, but she isn't accepting any visitors. You'll have to wait until tomorrow to see her." Melissa informed us.
