Run Away With Me

There they were. The entire graduating class of 2017 had reunited for the wedding. No one was surprised to see that Lydia was the first person from the class to marry. They were just surprised to see that the man she was marrying wasn't Stiles. It was Jackson. Jackson Whittemore.

Scott walked inside the chapel and frowned. He loved Lydia with all his heart, but he couldn't possibly support this wedding. As hard as he tried to talk Lydia out of marrying the man who almost got her killed, she wouldn't listen. Lydia had always been stubborn. It never seemed like a bad thing until now.

Scott looked around and spotted some familiar faces. Malia stood next to the alter in her bridesmaid gown. She looked as beautiful as ever. He caught her eye and gave her a gentle wave. Malia smiled widely at him. She had somehow gotten even prettier in the six years since senior year. Malia made her way over to Scott.

"Scott! How's it going?" Malia asked as she pulled him into a hug. They had stayed in contact, but hadn't seen each other in a few years.

"I can't complain. I'm running Deaton's clinic now. He offered me the job right out of college and I've been working there ever since." Scott answered.

"That's awesome. I'm glad you stuck with animals. Should I be calling you Dr. McCall now?" She said playfully. Scott laughed and looked down at his feet.

"Nah. Scott's fine. You look beautiful by the way." He said. Malia smiled and tucked her hair behind her ear.

"Thank you. Don't get used to it though. This will be the first and last time you see me in a dress."

"That's a shame. You look really good in a dress." Scott complimented.

This comment caught Malia off guard. She cleared her throat and looked at her feet.

"Would you uh...would you want to hang out sometime?" Malia asked. Scott was surprised to hear this.

"Yeah totally. It's been awhile. I've missed you." Scott answered. Malia was never one to be caught speechless. But it seemed like her little crush on Scott never went away.

"Great. I'll text you the details. I better get back to Lydia now. She's pretty stressed." Malia said. She walked back to the alter with the other bridesmaids.

Scott looked around and saw Stiles. He immediately sat down next to him.

"Stiles, you came. I didn't expect to see you here." Scott said.

"Of course I came. I didn't want to miss Lydia's big day." He said. Scott could see the sadness behind his eyes.

"I just figured you'd want to miss it because...you know."

"Because the love of my life is marrying a guy I despise? Why would I possibly want to miss that?" Stiles said sarcastically.

"I'm sorry buddy. I know this must be hard for you." Scott said softly. Stiles signed and looked at the alter.

"I can only be mad at myself. I put too much pressure on the relationship. We could've make long distance work but I just didn't try hard enough. I let myself get distracted and never made time for her. She deserves better." Stiles confessed.

"And you think Jackson is better? If you love her, go get her." Scott reasoned.

"Scott, she's about to get married. I'm too late."

"Haven't you ever heard of stopping a wedding? No offense Stiles, but you're not exactly known for keeping your mouth shut when something's bothering you. When the priest asks if anyone has any objections, stand up. Say something."

"But what if she doesn't feel the same way? We were together for four years and I still broke her heart. She trusted me and I let her down. I'm surprised she even invited me." Stiles said sadly.

"But that's the point. She invited you. Maybe she wants you to stop the wedding. You'll never know if you don't try." Scott told him. Stiles shrugged.

"But what about that 'if you love something, let it go and if it loves you, it'll come back' saying? She came back to Jackson. Not me. She probably just invited me as a curtesy. We broke up two years ago Scott. It's over." Stiles said. Scott sighed and put his hand on his friends shoulder.

"I'm sorry. I was rooting for you two." Scott apologized. Stiles just looked away.

Suddenly, church bells began to ring. Everyone faced forward and quieted down.

The ceremony went smoothly. But Stiles couldn't help but to notice the slight frown on Lydia's face. He kept trying to catch her eye, but she never looked up.

It was time to exchange the vows. Jackson and a smug grin on his face. Lydia looked pale. She looked around the chapel with desperate eyes.

Suddenly, she locked eyes with Stiles, her former flame. Stiles gave her a gentle nod and an assuring smile. Lydia looked like she was going to burst into tears.

"If any one has any objections, speak now or forever hold your peace." The priest announced. Lydia looked at her hands which were being held by Jacksons.

"I do." Lydia spoke up.

"Sweetheart, you're not supposed to say that yet." The priest said. The crowd laughed.

"No." Lydia released his hands. "I mean I have an objection"

Lydia looked at Jackson. He looked angry and confused.

"I am so sorry." She whispered. "I can't marry you."

"Why not?" Jackson asked. Lydia paused. Her eyes drifted from Jackson to Stiles.

"I'm in love with someone else " Lydia confessed. She looked back at Jackson and gave him an apologetic look. Without another word, she picked up the front of her wedding gown and ran out of the church doors.

Stiles didn't say anything. He didn't have to. He just stood up and ran after her.
