"I'll see you" he says quickly when I pick up the phone, "you know where".
I nod even though he can't see me. I'm going to answer when he's already finished the call. I jump into my car and drive to the spot I know he's talking about, it's a special place for us.
It takes me about thirty minutes to arrive at the Hollywood sign.
When I first got to L.A, I wasn't that much of a big celebrity, I was just this new coming up singer trying to get my career somewhere out of Youtube, so when I had the chance to invite Ryan over here, we took this tour around the city and ended up here, where he made me promise him all this new life wouldn't change me.
Maybe the whole promises thing started way back before Halley.
Ryan is waiting for me, standing below the big sign, looking down at the city. I know it looks prettier at night.
"Hi" I say shyly, walking towards him.
He just gives me an curious look and goes back to the view. A moment after, takes a sit on the floor.
"Come watch" he says.
I do as he says, and we both sit on the ground like little kids, watching the city that I now feel like mine.
"What are you thinking?" he asks.
"I'm thinking about the city" I reply.
"No, booger face, I mean what do you think you're doing?" he clarifies.
"I don't know" I shrug.
"Yeah, you never do" he runs his tongue over his lips, an habit he took when he quit smoking. "Anyway, what did you want to talk about?"
"I just wanted to say I'm sorry" I say, "and that I miss hanging with you" I add.
"Why are you saying sorry?" he asks serious. "Why now?"
"I've been thinking about my life" I say without hesitating. It's always been easy to talk to Ryan. "I met this girl.. And she has really gotten me to think about some stuff" I tell him.
"What about Hailey?"
"She broke up with me" It hurts a little when I tell him this. "She thought I was cheating on her" I continue, "well, maybe not cheating on her... She just thought we weren't good together anymore".
"Was this other girl in between this fight?" he turns his head to look at me.
"Yeah" I nod, "but nothing happened with her, we're just friends".
"It sounds like she digged deep into you" he says, "If she did make you think about your life"
"I don't know, she's kind of crazy to be honest"
"What do you mean?"
"We agreed on not talking anymore" I tell him, "you know, because of the troubles with Hailey" I add, making a face, "and then she comes back to me telling me her problems and stuff" I frown.
"But you keep talking to her" he points out.
"Yes..." I start, not so sure where this conversation is going, "I do want to help her" I proceed, "we've been helping each other lately".
"Sounds like you've got a new friend"
"Don't make her sound like a dog" I say making a disgusted face. He laughs.
"Look, if you're no longer with Hailey, you should keep talking to this girl, she sounds like she's good for you, she makes you feel good". He taps my shoulder, and I feel like it's the old Ryan and Justin, I kind of feel fifteen all over again. "If nothing happened with her while you had a girlfriend then she doesn't sounds like a bad girl to me" he adds, "you're both clean".
We both turn back to look at the city, and when it's been a while in silence, he quietly asks me:
"Do you like her?"
