Justin
My phone buzzes on my night table repeatedly and my first instinct is to ignore it but then I remember about Halley.
So I reach out my arm in the darkness, following the sound of my phone and the soft light I can barely see since it's looking down and my eyes refuse to open completely.
As I expected, it's her name the one I can read on the screen.
"If you ever want to kill yourself, please call me first", my voice echoes my mind as a reminder of what this phone call could be about and I think I can't take any chances on this. Because if it's about aliens or god or she just simply misses me, it'll be okay, but if it's about the desire of living, it won't, and it will never be okay for me not to answer my phone if she's the one calling.
"Hello?" I ask waiting for her voice to pop up, but it doesn't. "Halley?" I ask again, "Halley are you there?".
I can hear someone breathe on the other line.
"Halley is it you? What's wrong?"
A shaky breath comes out again and I sit on my bed.
"Hello?" I ask again.
"It's my dad" I can hear her voice in the other line.
"What happened to him?"
"He died" she tells me on a sobbing voice.
"Halley-"
"He died!" she cries louder and I can hear her falling apart.
"Where are you?"
"At my house"
"Wait there, I'm on my way".
I barely take time to put clothes on, shoes, a sweatshirt, my phone and I'm out in my car, leaving the city on the middle of the night to go to San Francisco to hold the girl that's falling into pieces.

When I turn to the right I can already see her sitting on the stairs that lead to her front door. Alone, sad and grey are the words that pop in to my mind as I recognize her silhouette under the light of San Francisco's sun.
I park my car in front of her house and she lifts her head when she hears it. I jump out and run all the way to her door, where I embrace her shaking cold body with my arms, trying to hold her as tight as possible.
"You have no idea how sorry I am" I whisper against her hair.
She doesn't says anything, she just cries and sobs against my chest, and I try to pull her hair out of her face and to be as stable and firm as I can, since I think that's what she could use right now. I kiss the top of her head and leave my lips there, waiting.
Waiting for her to be able to pronounce even one word. And I am in no hurry, I could wait for this girl whatever amount of time she needs, because I'm here for her.
"It was yesterday" she finally mumbles against my clothes.
