Justin

I arrive at my house around two in the afternoon, and as I open the door and I'm able to hear nothing but silence, I know there's something right about bringing the girl I've just left in another city into my life.

I leave the keys on the table next to the door some decorator picked up for me and realize nothing is really picked by me in the house.

I told a bunch of people what I wanted, of course, but nothing really says Justin in this house. And I want that, I want my personal mark. I want blue walls and dyed bedding and pieces of paper quoting songs on the walls.

I want essence. I want something real.

As I walk into my house I can sense the smell of food floating around the kitchen. Frowning, I walk into the room to find my mom in front of the oven.

"Honey, happy birthday!" she greets me walking over to me and surrounding my neck with her arms. I hug the tiny figure that is my mom and smile.

"Thank you, mom"

"I hope you don't mind" she says with an apologetic smile. "But I made lasagna, I hope that makes up for my intrusion".

"It's fine, mom" I nod.

"So, where were you?" she asks me while looking at the meal in the oven.

"I was making a little trip" I say casually, trying to avoid the subject.

"A trip? Where?"

"San Francisco" I reply.

"San Francisco?" she repeats with a curious expression, "What were you doing in San Francisco, darling?"

"I was meeting the girl" I confess looking at the ground, knowing she knows what I'm talking about.

She stops everything she's doing to look at me.

"The girl you told me you met over twitter?" she questions placing a hand on her hip.

"Yes" I say firmly, "yes, I was meeting her and she's amazing, why are you pulling that face?"

She looks at me, and I think she's wondering how stupid am I.

"Don't you think you're jumping from one relationship to another?"

"I'm not jumping into anything" I say, "this is not a relationship, it's just a friendship" I explain.

"A friendship with someone you don't know"

"Well you have to start as strangers in order to become friends" I reply, "besides, I know her".

"Darling-"

"Mom" I cur her off, "Do you remember when all of this started?" I ask her and she remains quiet, "When I started uploading videos online and out of nowhere we got a call from Scooter? And you doubt it?"

"Yes".

"I've always wanted to believe the good on people, I've always been good at these things, am I wrong?" She doesn't say anything, "Yeah, thought so. I decided to believe in Scooter at that moment and next thing I know I was flying to America and meeting Usher and getting record deals" I remind her as if she could ever forget, "I've decided to believe in Halley, that's her name, Halley, as the comet. I've met her and she's amazing, and sweet and honest and sparkly" I smile. "And I think that if I let this girl go I'll never find someone as real as her, she's a once in a lifetime opportunity, just like the comet she carries the name of".

"And finally", I add, "I'm not a kid anymore, I'm not sixteen, seventeen... I'm twenty two, mom, and I can decide by myself who do I get to hang out with, thank you very much for your concern, but I'll go as I say on this one".

I let out a sigh.

"Now" I put my hands together, "shall we eat?".
