Next morning I woke up with a smile. I could still hear the flute from my dream in my mind. If I closed my eyes I could imagine the beautiful dance hall. I stood up from the bed. As I walked to the washroom I pretended that I was still in the dance hall and twirled my body with my hands on either side of me. Then I took a few steps forward then back again then I twirled again. I giggled as I took another turn and stopped just in front of the bathroom.
I had to meet Jenny today and I remember that she promised to give me a surprise today. I brushed my teeth and gargled. I went to my closet for a fresh set of clothes and then went to the bathroom to take a bath.
Excitement and curiousness is seriously driving me crazy. I can't wait for the surprise I am to get today. I am sure she has something great for me. Surprises have always been my kind of thing. More than materialistic it gave me emotional satisfaction that the other person has put so much thought in surprising me. I dressed myself as thoughts ran through my mind. I combed my hair as I stood in front of the mirror.
For the first time I thought about using make up for hiding the dark bags under my eyes I have grown so accustomed to.
I took out a concealer and foundation. I stared at my reflection as my hands worked magic under my eyes.I dabbed under my eyes with concealor and foundation. When I was satisfied I stood back to admire my work. The dark circles magically disappeared as if they never existed. Only a little trace of their ever existence was visible under the caked make up.
After a long time I felt beautifull and like the Lara I used to be. I felt confident and happy.I grabbed my bag and ran down the stairs and out on the street. Make up had consumed more time than I thought it would. If I didn't hurry I would probably be late so I took a cab.
I quickly payed the driver and entered the lift. With the upward motion of the lift my excitement was also rising up.
I glanced at my watch as I walked out of the lift. I was 5 minutes early. From the reception Anna waved at me. I smiled at walked towards her.
"You look so pretty. What have you done?" Anna exclaimed at once.
"Nothing much. Just tried my hand at make up". I said with a smirk.
"I must say you are good at it". Anna said with dramatical admiration.
I giggled at her reaction. Tjis girl was crazy and she always seem to cheer me up. She laughed with me. After a few moments she informed me that it was my turn to meet Jenny.
"Ah! I am going to get a surprise today". I said in a teasing tone.
"A surprise from who?" Anna enquired.
"From the lady you work for". I giggled and started walking towards Jenny's office before she could say anything.
I opened the door and Jenny was already sitting in her chair waiting for me with a smile. I smiled back and greeted her.
"Hello Jenny". I said.
"You look beautiful today Lara". She commented me.
"So has Anna told me". I said with a smile.
"Yeah. Sure she has. How was it yesterday? Any panick attacks?" She asked me.
"No. I slept well. Thanks to those pills. They calmed me a great deal". I told her.
"I am glad you feel happy". She said. Her smile grew larger. "Just like I promised I have a surprise for you. I don't know whether you will like it or not. But it's a lovely thing". She said.
"Oh! I can't wait. I have been thinking about it since the moment you told me". I told her.
"But first I need to know that you are not allergic to cats. Are you?" She asked me with raised eyebrows.
"No. Ofcourse I am not". I said. I was confused about her questions. And why does she look so hopeful when she asked me that? It's not like she is going to gift me a cat. Is it?
I do have crazy thoughts at times. Ofcourse doctors don't give cats to their patients.
I shook all the thoughts from my mind as the smirk on Jenny's face grew at my answer.
"Perfect!" She exclaimed as she bent low to pick up something.
She lifted a basket and presented it to me. I could not think about what could be in it. Confused I took the basket from her and peered inside and to my astonishment it was like my own thought were carnated. It was the cutest little thing I had ever seen.
"You see. It is a-" she began but I cut her in mid sentence.
"A kitten". I said without quite believing it myself.
In the basket was a little lovely fluffed kitten. The blanket was well padded and the little kitten slept peacefully in it wrapped in warm little blankets. It looked so adorable and cute that I could not get my eyes off her. I felt like my fingers were dying to touch the little thing. I was so much in awe by the little kitten tha I forgot Jenny was still sitting there.
"Do you like it?" Jenny asked me breaking my train of thoughts.
"It is adorable". I said.
"My cat had 7 kittens a week ago and it is one of them. You can keep it if you like". She said.
I had never had a pet in past. This was going to be my first ever experience with a pet and believe me this cute little thing hd already won my heart. I could not refuse at any cost.
"I love it. Thankyou so much Jenny. It is the best surprise". I told her with a grin.
"I am glad you liked it". She smiled back at me. "You can take it home and name it. I am eager to know what you will name it".
The prospect of owning a pet excited me. I was literally jumping with joy. I thanked Jenny again and left her office feeling happy.
On my way out I walked towards Anna's table to show her my unnamed pet.
"Aww. This is so cute!" She exclaimed with excitement.
"Yes. I know. I can't explain how happy I feel today. Jenny is such a sweet heart". I said.
"I saw her with this basket early today but I didn't knew it had a kitten". She told me.
"I never thought she would gift me a kitten. I am totally in awe". I said with happiness dripping from my words.
She laughed at my excitement. "We can buy her new blankets and kitty toys". She suggested.
"That would be lovely". I said.
"Promise me that you will let me play with her". She said with childlike eagerness.
I giggled. "Yes. Ofcourse". I said.
I felt happy that Anna was just as excited as I was. May be we could shop together for my little kitty. But for now I need to think of a name for my new pet.
A thing so cute deserves a name that can match it's cuteness and I will make sure that I do full justice to it. Afterall now I was a proud owner of the cutest little kitten. My first pet.
