HUNTER
Hunter stomped his feet, marching back towards the hotel. After she signed the agreement, Haru and Elsa left the building. He was being a gentleman, volunteered to escort the women downstairs towards the hotel entry. The staff greeted Hunter with respect along the way. Haru didn't say a word to him. Just a brush wave of goodbye all she gave. It was not even for him, she waved at the staffs. It did hurt him. The last words he heard from his betrothed was about her wanting to eat curry noodles or something.
When Hunter saw his men along the hallways, he walking paced started to get slow and his hands went up and corrected his suit.
Hunter barged into the office. "Explain." His papa was sitting on his, technically Hunter's chair, reading today's newspaper, with a cup of tea on the desk.
"Why her?"
"Maybe you should ask why I chose her instead of other girls. That should be a greater question." Hunter already prepared himself since he was a child to marry any girl of his papa choice. He never understood what was his papa thinking. The Laskov men were talented in business and loyal to their women. It was not like Hunter have any candidates to be his wife either. Yet, it didn't mean that he had no hope of his future wife.
He had wanted her to be friendly, to be amiable and cordial. And Haru wasn't the woman that he had in mind.
Hunter sighed and pressed his palm on the desk, "Papa, why her than any other girls?"
"She's a commoner." His papa answered. Hunter lifted his eyebrows, "What is she being a commoner have anything to do with her marrying me?" Vladimir stopped reading the newspaper and gently folding it, "It was a great choice." He said, looking at his son's eyes, he continued, "Low profile. Doesn't outshines. Content. The safest choice. Marrying you off with another heir of a gang's would be unbearable after that happened."
Hunter laughed as if Vladimir was making a joke. He was slightly hurt when Vladimir mentioned that, but he ignored it. "Why not? I could have a betrothed to a Yakuza's or an Italian Mobster's daughter...Or you should probably ask Helena Choi to marry me, you know. We could've been great partners in the underworld."
"You said that your friend Helena likes women."
"That's beside the point, Papa. Our marriage would probably just for our gangs anyways."
"Nonetheless, if you would be married to another gang's heir, it would be chaos. You know how each gang are very culturally proud and still very opposed to intercultural marriages? And you know if anything bad happens, none of the couples would have a choice but to stay with their rightful gangs and fought with each other on behalf of their birthrights? It would make me go crazy."
A low 'ugh!' came out from Hunter's throat. He started to pace away and to the desk. Vladimir was right. Marrying another gang's heir would be a pain in the butt. Hunter had seen a lot of gangs' marriages destroyed; from betrayals, from the history of violence, and no matter if the couple were in love with each other and wanted to leave their place as the heir of their respective gangs, they somehow would be vanished for good. And Hunter didn't want that. Being friends with another heir already were risky. But Helena and Achilles were his friends since childhood, and none of their gangs collide negatively with each other.
