Chapter 6

Stevens pov~

Malachite steps on the right side of out bubble, popping it. Peridot pulled me, who was frozen in shock, to the left side. I barely register what's going on before salty water covers my eyes, making everything blurry, and filling my mouth. I struggle to get it out, and finally get it out of my mouth. My eyes have adjusted by now, thank goodness.

My cheeks puff out, and I finally snap out of my little struggle to see Malachite lunging at us, and Peridot in front of me, baring her teeth protectively. I can see her eye wear floating above Malachites head.

Nng..... I can't focus! Everything seems slow motion as I summon my shield. Malachite lunges face first hard into the shield, chipping the tip of Jaspers gem.

I forgot about myself... I can't breathe! I start to see black... Peridot...

Peridot's pov~

I drag Steven up towards the air, and as soon as we break the surface he gasps greedily for air, sucking in as much as he can. He calms down in a moment, but is still weak.

"Steven, can you swim by yourself for a moment?" I ask firmly. He nods. "Swim towards the shore, don't stop until you get there. Is that clear?" I tell/ask him. "B-but I can't ju-just leave yo-you." He says softly, weakly. "What if Malachite comes back?" He asks.

"Malachite unfused! We won, Steven! I have to get the gems." I told him. He nodded happily. He grabbed my hand before he started to swim towards shore. "Be careful, Peridot, don't get hurt." His voice cracked. He leaned towards my forehead as if he wanted to do something, then seemed to think better of it.

He let go and gazed into my eyes warmly, and started to swim away. I ducked under the surface, and grabbed all the gems, even Jaspers chipped gem.

Peridot's pov~

I watch as Steven tucks all the gems into blankets. Even Jasper and Lapis. Steven had the heart to fix Jaspers gem, after all she had done to us. I protested, but he insisted. He said all gems should have a chance... Like I did.

I agreed after he said that. Right now we were wrapped up in a blanket together, watching the gems in case they come out of their gem.

"Hey Peridot?" Steven asked.
"What?" I ask drearily.
"You lost your eye protecter." Steven pointed out. I gasp and reach up and feel my gem, blushing as i do so. "I did!" I wail, "My gem is weak and vulnerable!" I lean on Steven for comfort. He pats me on the back.

"It's ok, it's ok!" He tells me. The screen door crashes open. "Steven!" A voice calls. "I was so worried! You didn't return any of my calls, and I thought Malachite had killed you!" Connie yells. She walks in and sees me leaning on Steven. She glares at me threatiningly.

"Um, hello, Peridot..."

@geod23 s idea isn't over yet! It will be by the next chapter, though. You'll love it, unless your a Connie fan. Also, I made Peridot's remorse at losing her eye gear (I FINALLY FOUND THE WORD I WAS LOOKING FOR!!!) based on my love for my fave jacket. I will literally wear it all day inside, and then when it's snowing outside I will take it off when I leave school. Anyway, STAY FABULOUS MY MANGOS!!!
