Chapter 31

I'm so sorry I haven't updated in such a long time! I've just been busy and I have a life outside of Wattpad. Yeah, I wish.
Today is Amethyst!

(Stevens pov🤘~)

    My eyes creak open, and I immediately look over at my cookie cat clock. 9:00. I should get up. Shivers pass through me as my bare feet touch the cold floor. All the gems were gone, not in the living room or kitchen. That was surprising, since all the new gems seemed to spend a lot of time there. They must be out working on the drill. I get dressed to go out. As I go out, I look up at the barn and see all of the gems working. Except for Emerald and Lapis, they aren't really trusted yet. This makes me wonder when Jasper will come back. She's taking an awfully long time.

    I run up to the barn and plop down next to the drill, panting. Pearl is working on some wires or something with Peridot inside the drill, Garnet and Amethyst are working on the outside of the drill, and Lapis and Emerald are sitting on separate hay bales lazily. I sit next to Lapis, making her smile slightly. "How are you?" I ask her. "I'm... Good. How are you?" She throws the question back at me. "Good." I say. Emerald glanced at me, "Hi Steven." She says, "Wanna hear a joke?" She asks, sitting up straighter.

    "Yeah!" I smile at her encouragingly. "Pearl." She says, starting to snicker at her own 'joke'. Lapis chuckles drowsily. "Um... I don't get it." I mutter loud enough for her to hear. "Pearl is a joke! Don't you get it?" Emerald yells with an annoyed and offended look on her face. "Excuse me?" Pearl growls, popping out of the drill. Emerald opens her mouth to retort but is interrupted by Pearl. "JUST BECAUSE I'M A PEARL I AM A JOKE?" She screamed angrily. Emerald opens her mouth once again, but snaps it shut and nods.

Pearl huffs and goes back inside of the drill. We can hear her voice echo inside of it: "I've already been through this once, I don't want to go through it again!"
"Man, you are amazing at making enemies." I scoff at Emerald. Emerald makes an innocent face. "Who would hate me, the brave and noble and strong and heroic and courageous and wonderful Emerald!" She says sweetly. "Pearl, Peridot, Yellow Diamond probably now. The list goes on and on." Lapis pipes in. "Yellow Diamond doesn't hate me." Emerald mumbles, "She doesn't even know what happened."

"She seems like the type of person to jump to conclusions a lot." I say skeptically. "Pfft. Yellow Diamond is too smart to do that!" She starts to look unsure of her own words. "Mmmhmm." Lapis hums sarcastically. Emerald glares at her. "Well, I have to go." I say, trying to be cheerful and get out of this awkward situation. I get up and walk away.

    
(Peridot's pov✍~)

    "Grr!" I growl as a knock on the outside of the drill distracts me, making my finger slip on the wire I was holding. I poke my head out the hatch. "What do you want? Can't you see I'm busy!" I snap at the person standing right outside. "I'm sorry." Steven apologizes. "It's okay, you clod." I mumble, blushing with embarrassment at my temper. Steven smiles, satisfied I forgave him. "Peridot!" Pearl shouts from deeper in the drill.

    "What?!" I yell back. After a while of arguing, she agrees to give me a short break, but right afterwards she gets one. Fair enough, but I have the feeling she'll try to make hers a lot longer than mine. I hop out of the drill.
