Unfortunately, I don't have all the time in the world. So I'm going to have to put a limit on what things I can do. I'm doing the things on my bucket list that mean the most to me. I don't have enough time to do everything. But you can't spend your entire life worrying about the things you cant do. You should be making the most of the things you can do.
So today, me and Ben are travelling up to Devon cliffs, to do something I've always wanted to do-Cliff diving!
He knows an old friend that lives up there. And he's arranged for me and him to travel there today, and to tick off another thing off my bucket list.It takes an hour to get to Devon from where we live. So I guess it isn't too far away.
I kiss my mum goodbye, then Ben picks me up and we start driving to Devon!
"You looking forward to today?" Ben asks.
"OMG yes, I've literally wanted to do this since i was like 10."
"You're crazy you know that?"
"I know. But it's all just part of the fun. What is a life without risks?"
"You're absolutely right!" He laughs then quickly turns his head to kiss me on the cheek.
Then we continue on with the journey.--
We finally arrive, and I literally jump out of the car with excitement.
We park next to a small building, where we meet up with Ben's friend. He used to go to school with him when they were younger but he since moved to Devon with his parents.
"Hey mate, how you doing?" The guy asks.
"I'm good thanks, I'd like to introduce you to Darcy" says Ben
"Hi Darcy, I'm George" he begins to shake my hand "so you're the special one Huh? I've heard a lot about you. "
"Have you?" I ask curiously.
"Yeah, whenever me and ben decide to have a catch up, you're all he ever talks about. "
"Oh alright. Well hi George. I'm really looking forward to today"
"That's great to hear. So what brings you down here today, any particular reason?" Me and Ben suddenly go silent. How do I tell someone who's practically a stranger that I'm here because I only have a few weeks to live?
"Er... She's" ben hesitates to say anything.
"It's on my bucket list... And I don't have much time, so...."
George hesitates to speak for a while, but I carry on trying to smile at him to make him feel less awkward "alright then, well let's make sure today is a day to remember!"
"Of course! Let's do it!" I say enthusiastically. We all walk Inside the small building where we all get changed into our swim wear. We have to wear a wetsuit, and shoes for extra protection. I'm a little nervous , But ben tells me that George does this with his parents for a living. He knows the exact right spots to do it, and where there is least danger.
We head outside and make the short walk to the edge of the cliff. Whilst shaking, I look over the edge and the open , blue water is revealed. The extreme height starts to petrify me.
"You ready for this Darcy?" Ben asks.
"Yep, I really want to do it. So let's get on with it before I change my mind"George gives us some basic tips to make it as safe as possible, and how to enjoy it whilst you're literally flying through the air.
He goes first, demonstrating how to do it.
He stands on the edge without a single muslce movement. Then he just leaps off, and into the air, as if it's as easy as diving into a pool. He's a professional, so he does all these flips and tricks, whilst in the air. Me and Ben are going to stick to the basic pencil jumps.
I watch George as he plummets to the ocean. He falls for quite a while, then suddenly hits the water with barely a splash. A few seconds later, I see him float above the surface . He's waving his hands around, telling us it's safe for me to go.
"I'll go next Ben. I'll see you at the bottom" I take my time to kiss him on his quivering lips. I think he's more nervous than me to be honest. But I'm filled with more excitement than nerves.
Ben holds my hand as I edge closer to the edge of the cliff. I decide to stare striaght ahead of me, rather than downwards.
I slowly let go of his hand, then step one foot forward.... Then I release myself from the safety of earths crust, and now I'm flying elagantly through the air. The exhilaration of falling with nothing stopping you is an indescribable feeling. As the sea gets closer, I hear the more rapid noise of the waves crashing against the rocks. I keep my cool, take a massive breath in of the fresh air surrounding me, then eventually pierce through the oceans crystal, blue beauty. I plummet under the sea, and for a second I panic, with the feeling of not being able to see or breath. But soon enough, George comes and helps me raise up above the water again.
"Oh my god that was incredible! I've never felt anything like it!" The exhilaration is still moving through me. I'm so hyped up and have the largest grin on my face.
"So you enjoyed it then?" George asks.
"OMG yes! I can't even describe the feeling I have right now. I've never... I mean, that was just...."
"I know right, just incredible. Now don't you want to watch your boyfriend do it?"
"Yes definitely"
From the distance that we are standing from, I see the small figure standing on the edge, bracing himself to jump.
Then he begins falling, and within a few seconds he's landed in the ocean. When I was traveling down, it felt like I was floating forever. But really it was only a few seconds. But each second in my situation counts.
