I arduously open my eyes with no clue how long I have been gone. I'm lying at a bed of stone in a small, secluded and dusky, made of stone room. My hands are stuck in handcuffs and I can't see clearly. Little by little I get more aware of the situation. I feel myself getting more scared. I painfully get up out of bed and slowly walk towards the concrete door. I pound carefully and notice the stone door is thicker than I thought.
'anybody there?!' I yell with my shaky yet loud voice.
But I hear no response for like 10 minutes. After 10 minutes someone opens the door.
"Come" A soldier-like man says as he points to the ground in front of him like a dog-command.
I stand there in front of my 'bed' and look surprised at him. Unfortunately he doesn't looks to be patient at the moment. So he walks my way with large footsteps. He grabs my arm and drags me along with him through a tiny corridor. I'm trying my best to keep up but he just holds my arm too tight. I can barely walk of how tight he is holding me.
He opens a strong looking stone door and throws me in muggy living room alike little chamber. He unlocks my handcuffs, walks away and closes the door. I look around: There isn't a lot of furniture here, only a little bookshelf, a brown couch meant for two persons, a wooden table and two concrete chairs. The walls are dark blue and the floor is made of chestnut colored wood. This looks so much more comfortable than where I just came from..
In spite of this better room I've just been thrown in, I don't feel comfortable. But that's completely normal, given the situation. I look around in the square shaped room and start feeling a little less captive-ish. I decide to keep calm and think clear about a solution for this situation. I walk towards the couch and let myself relax for a moment. But that moment is shorter than I thought because in less than 5 minutes someone opens the door. A man is holding someone. Wait, is that... Zach?! He is holding Zach?! He doesn't move, is he dead?! I jump off the couch but the man clearly doesn't want me to move.
"Stay there!" he commands.
I startle because of his loud voice and calmly sit down. My comfortable mood has turned to scared again. The man now walks further in the room and puts Zach on the firm, concrete chair. He sustains him, otherwise Zach would fall off the chair. Then he starts wrapping a rope around him. I silently watch. What do I have to think about this? Why would he tie a rope around him if he is dead?
The man walks backwards, observes Zach for a few seconds and turns around to me.
He starts laughing. "Good luck" and then walks away.
'Good luck with what?' I ask before he closes the door.
"You'll find out".
He closes the door and I immediately run towards Zach. I look at him and notice his shirt is torn and he looks really pasty. I don't see his chest moving either, he's not breathing. I feel a sting in my heart as I realize he is dead.. Am I feeling sad of his death? No, it must be the shock of seeing someone dead.. again. But then I feel a tear is rolling down my cheek. I wipe it off and dejectedly walk to the couch where I face Zach. I sit down, but as soon as I sit down, Mason comes up in my mind. What if he is dead too?! I just know him for maybe less than 2 days but I am already really attached to him..
After a while of brooding, I start to feel sleepy. I close my eyes and fall asleep. It didn't last long because a noise wakes me.
I open my eyes and see Zach is moving. 'Zach?!' I say full of surprise.
He opens his eyes and groans a little. I get up from the couch and run at him.
I notice he looks very weak. 'We've been kidnapped, Zach. You need to get us out of here' I rapidly say.
He looks around and tries to rip the ties off of him, but in vain.
'Why can't you break the ropes, Zach? I curiously ask.
"These are not normal ropes.." He says as he gasps a little. " These ropes are made of Petalum"
I look wonderingly at him. 'Petalum.. the herb?'
He nods arduously.
'Well, what can I do to get you out of these ropes?'
He looks hopelessly up to me. "Nothing.. you can't do anything. These ropes are too strong'.
The hope I had is now gone. I stare at the wall and start thinking.
"I need to tell you something you should know about.." He says out of nowhere.
I wake up from my thoughts and look curious at him.
"They drained a lot of blood out of my body and.."
A man, not the same as the one that threw me in this room, opens the door and interrupts him. "Good morning, rise and shine". He walks my way. "Isn't it a wonderful little room in here?"
I look angry at him. He is so sarcastic..
"Don't look so sour, the game hasn't even begun!" He says. There was a moment of silence. "Well, aren't you curious what game I'm talking about?"
Zach looks up to the man.
The man continues: "Let me shortly explain it for you" He points at me "You are locked in here" then he points at Zach "and you are locked in here. He there, as you know, is a vampire. I drained a lot of blood out of him, so he is very weak right now. In order for him to strengthen again, he needs to have blood in his system, which his body can't fill up by itself. The point is, he needs blood. A lot. And trust me, he wants it. right now. in fact: he's starving.
Do you already get where I'm going with this?" He asks.
I can feel myself getting terrified as I realize what he means. 'Y- you're going to kill me?' I ask with a shaky voice.
He laughs. "No sweetie, I'm not". He looks at Zach "He is".
"That's where you're wrong" Zach says. "I'm not going to kill her".
The man starts laughing "We'll see. Well. I hope my explanation was clear enough for you to understand. But before I go, I need to do something".
He grabs my arm and makes a big cut in my hand with a little knife he just quickly grabbed out of one of his pockets.
I feel a sting in my hand and start groaning. 'Why?!' I ask with a clearly having pain voice.
"look for yourself" The man responds as he looks at Zach.
I look at Zach and see the black color I saw a few times ago return in his eyes again. I panic. 'Let me out of here, please! I haven't done anything to you. Why are you doing this?!'
But the man just looks at me and then walks away. "We'll see how long he can resist it" he says just before he closes the door.
I look back at Zach and he is looking worse than ever..
