<MANDY'S POV>
'Thank you'. I say as I'm sitting on the couch in Zach and Mason's living room.
Mason nods. "It was very brave of you to go look for us". He says as he's standing a few feet away from me, looking at an old painting on the wall.
"And stupid". Alyssa adds sitting on the other couch, smirking.
'Where's Zach?'. I ask.
Mason turns around and looks at me. "He headed back in the building to retaliate".
I impulsively jump off the couch. 'NO, why did you let him?!'. I say, quickly walking towards Mason. 'Why let him risk becoming a test subject again?! We need to go back'.
"Whoa..". Mason says, grabbing my shoulders. "First; if Zach wants something, you better just let him. Or he'll just screw up more. Second; he's doing it for you, you know..".
I look straight into Mason's eyes. 'For me?'.
Mason nods.
'Then I have to do something in exchange'. I say, walking towards the door.
But Mason stops me by rapidly standing right in front of the door.
I look angry at him and try to push him aside. 'Let me through!'.
"How about no". He responds, still not going away.
'Fine'. I respond. 'I'll just jump out of the window'.
"Break a leg". He says, looking neutral at me.
I turn around and angrily sit down. 'What if I want to go home'.
"Then I get you home". He responds. "And Alyssa will stay there with you until Zach returns so you won't do anything reckless in the meantime".
I get up from the couch. 'I feel soiled so I'm going to take a shower'. I say, ignoring what he's saying. 'Or do I have to get your permission for that either?'.
He gestures his permission. "Go ahead".
When I walk away, I hear Alyssa talking with Mason. Good. He's distracted. I think as I'm heading up to the bathroom. I lock the door and put on the shower, so they won't hear me actually leaving through the tiny window I think I barely fit through. I first take a look outside, figuring out a way to get down. It's really high, and there's nothing but leaves and grass nearby.
The only thing I can do is carefully walk on the sticking-out beam which is leading to a much lower roof I can let myself fall on. After pulling myself together and get my heartbeat under control, I finally decide to do it. First my legs, than the rest. It takes a few minutes to fit myself through the window, but I succeed. I'm now standing on the beam which I notice is really slippery because of the moist mornings lately. There's nothing I can keep a hold on, and my heartbeat raises real quick. There's no going back now, because I will never be able to reach that window without jumping again. What if I jump to reach for the window, and fail? I'll fall on my back, and be blind for the rest of my life.. I think, seeing it all happening. So I grab the most sticking out bricks and carefully slide my feet one by one to the right. All is going really good for now, perhaps I will actually reach the lower roof. But suddenly I fail reaching for a brick, and lose my balance. That in combination with the slippery beam, makes me falling to the ground, backwards. Just as I imagined.
I close my eyes of fear and feel the most anxious feeling I've ever experienced in my life in just one second. I startle when I hit the ground, which feels less hard than I thought it would feel, but when I open my eyes, I see Zach who apparently caught me. After a few seconds I realize it was stupid to think my fall from that height would actually feel like this. But that must have been the fear overwhelming me.
