Wide Awake

Sitting up, I clutch my hand immediately in my neck and then look at my hand if there's any blood on it. But there isn't and I feel no wound either. Did I dream it after all?

My eyes wander surreptitiously around in the dim and large room, lit up by the few faint wall- and table lamps shining light across the darkest parts of the room. Who would reside in this beautiful house? I imagine an old man or woman, taking care of me after finding me on the cold streets of Delzyle, waiting for me to wake up so they can bring me home safely. As I glare outside the only window in this room, plus minus seven meters away from me, I notice the darkness from outside surrounding the house like a barricade, making me doubt whether staying here or fleeing away is the best thing to do.

I push myself up from the couch and grant myself some time to glance over in the mysterious, yet splendid big living room. The room's mostly decorated with empty flower pots, half burned up candles, black vases, dusty books in bookshelves and to my surprise I notice a huge flat screen TV, hanging on the wall a few feet behind the couch I woke up on. The other couch is at the left side of the couch I woke up on; a corner sofa made out of two separated couches. Why didn't they turn the couches to the TV? I wonder, looking at the flat screen again.

Continuing snooping around, I notice there are three clocks as far as I can see, two hanging on two different sides of the wall and a tiny one on the dresser, underneath the TV but each one of them is indicating a different time. I head over to the bookshelf at the right side of the couch, my eyes immediately catching the book I have at home; 'A Stranger To Myself' from an authoress I only know her name is Mandy too. All these books haven't been read for a long time, seeing a layer of dust covering the top of the books entirely.

Suddenly I hear something creaking on the floor above me and I turn around, standing still as I expectantly look around the room, waiting for someone to appear behind the corner. At the end of the room straight in front of me, at the left side is that corner, looking like a three meter broad corridor, leading to somewhere I can't see from here. But since it's looking to be the only way out, I decide to tiptoe that way, creeping to a potential way out of here. Silently I walk around the corner, startling immediately when I bump into someone.

"Mason?" I marvel, looking confused.

"Woah, I didn't expect you to be awake for hours." He responds, seeming to feel exactly as I do. "How are you?"

So many questions start swirling around in my head as I stand here in front of him, in the house I expected an old man or woman to live as there is a lack of modern furniture in this room. Would he know about vampires too? I wonder, feeling the strong urge to tell someone. But he wouldn't believe me anyway and considering my woundless neck, I don't even believe it.

"What am I doing here?" I take a step back, creating some more personal space. "A-and what are you doing here?"

He remains silent, then walks past me around the corner. "I live here and my brother brought you."

Standing still, thinking and looking at the place he just stood, I turn around. "Your brother?"

Mason sits down on the couch, gesturing with his hand I can sit on the other one.

Sighing, I head over to it, sitting down as he requested.

"Do you want some water?"

Looking confused, I shake my head slightly, rejecting. "I'm not visiting." I respond, surprised. "Look, I need to go home, my parents. They must be concerned."

I look around for a door out, knowing my parents don't even noticed my absence yet since they're not even at home their selves. But he needs to think someone's missing me and looking for me, so he will let me go easier in case he has bad intensions. I push myself up from the couch to stand up but then feel being hold back.
